It doesnt matter to me, tattoo a swastika to your forehead if you like, its a free country.
And along those lines I'll feel free to express my views on them.
the title of the thread was, "considering a tatoo- thoughts"
Those are my thoughts, dont like em dont read em.
maybe I'll convince someone they are a bad idea and 20 years from now they will appreciate not looking like a men's room stall door.

Wow Joe-you may need to find another cause. You have expressed your opinions, now let it be. Hammering on it will not make more folks agree, in fact, it may do just the opposite.

I love my ankle bracelet tattoo, which is not easily covered, unless I want to wear pants all the time. As most know, all of my kids and their SO's have quite a bit of ink, which is their business. All of it CAN be covered OF they choose, including the 2 full sleeves one has, and the full back pieces two of the girls have. I will say tho, that I like tattoos that are "art". That means that the artist is truly an artist, and the tattoo has color, shading, and is not just something in black. So, Op, find a good artist and work something up. Good luck!

If someone asks for opinions, it is fair to give them. And tattoos send messages to other people. Some may consider them good messages, but it might be worth remembering that styles change, interests change, body shapes change, and few things hold meaning for 40+ years.

Tattoo phrases almost always seem a bad idea to me. I like VS Littauer's statement about riding enough to make it my HF signature, but I'm not sure it needs to be permanently marked on the small of my back...let alone my forearm. John 3:16 is a good Bible verse, but it looks better on the printed page than on my chest. At least, I assume it does. Darned if I'm going to experiment to find out.

I've known people with tattoos of their spouse...who then got a divorce. One told me he was thinking about getting a red circle with a slash tattooed over it! I've seen some eagles that have morphed, over time, into Big Bird.

I have no objection to a discrete tattoo that can be covered if needed and where the skin isn't likely to change much with time. And anyone can get a tattoo anywhere they want. But there are tattoos that don't work so well. I will admit a small copy of a BLM brand would be more sensible than these:

"People can teach us the rules, but only horses can teach us the art of riding."

Honestly I dont care what the latest fads are. tattoos are just trashy.
Thank you for being ever so encouraging You've expressed how much you couldn't care less, so I can't help but wonder, why do you feel the need to come here and be so discouraging? Trashy or not, it's not your body, and you and I will probably never meet each other, so you don't have to look at it if it bothers you so. Thank you very much.

Everyone else, thank you for the constructive criticism, and placement advice. I have a lot of time to think things over and I appreciate the insight.

Thank you for feeding us years of lies. Thank you for the wars you left us to fight. Thank you for the world you ruined overnight. But we'll be fine, yeah we'll be fine.

Being discouraging because my intent is to discourage you . Same way I would someone that wants to fork their tongue, flatten their babies heads, bind their girls feet, put ever increasing rings around your neck to stretch it taller and taller, or any of the other numerous things people have done to themselves in the name of fashion. Now we look back and shake our heads. SOrta the way the future will eventually about this.

Putting tattoos on your hand or face is a bad idea which can affect your future life.
But Id suggest next time labeling your thread,
"thoughts please but only from people that agree with me."

you know what gets me is this entire forum is about people asking questions, then getting responses both good and bad for and against. No harm no foul.
A young lady comes on here with a grand idea of defacing herself in a manner that can effect her in many ways for a long long time, (which quite a few others mentioned as well) I discourage that and suddenly I'm a terrible guy. Well so be it. Next time a young person asks about a tattoo I'm gonna tell them the same thing.

You asked what people thought of your idea, Joe told you what he thought.

I don't care for tattoos either. I have never seen a tattoo that I thought was remotely attractive.
Get an ID bracelet with your horses tattoo on it and wear it whenever you like.
A tattoo with a brand or a number on it reminds me of a concentration camp prisoner.

After I had read the first post, I wondered if the title of the thread was more about her asking what people thought of the idea of the tattoo design she wanted to get, not whether or not someone agreed with her getting a tattoo.

Maybe a rephrase of the title to "What do you think of the tattoo design?" or something like that, would have made the OP's intent a little more clear.

I think your idea is a very original and good one. I think symbols would be cooler than just numbers, but it's your potential tattoo, not mine. If you like the ideas of numbers instead of symbols than go for it. Go for what you want. The placement of it, like others have pointed out, may not be the best. I just don't have a better idea of where to put it. Others who have more experience with tattoos might be able to help you more with a different placement.

What gets me about this forum, is the fact that because people can hide behind a key board, they get brave, and don't feel they reserve the right to be respectful to other people. Had you replied to my thread in a manner that came off as polite, like many others, I would have just ignored you. Like I said before, it's not your body, plain and simple, and I shall put what I want on it. I have taken many of these replies into consideration, because they were constructive. If you don't think the placement or the design of my potential tattoo is a good idea, then maybe you should have said that, but it took you three posts to get it out. You don't know the reason I wanted to get my horse's freeze brand tattooed onto myself and why I want to be able to see it, so maybe before you go on a tangent about how awful my idea is, it would be a good idea to get the reasoning before hand.
