Smile English Assignment - Living the 'authentic life'

Our assignment is that we have to design and develope an english work program that will enable students to better resist pressures towards conformity be it with technology, sexuality, peer groups etc. Was just wondering if anyone has seen a movie, read a novel or poem that teaches young teenagers to live the 'authentic life'. A movie, novel or poem that could be used in a work program that maybe teaches moral values etc.

Well, what popped into my head was the song "Defying Gravity" from the musical "Wicked". It's about the main character (Elphaba, the "Wicked Witch") and how she refuses to give in because she has a cause she believes in. The Wizard of Oz is maintaining the status quo, and she won't let herself be lured by his promises of power and acceptance, even though that's all she's ever wanted. It's a bit more complex, but just the musical "Wicked" in general might be good for that.
