Kind of sounds like a scam.

Y'know Kevin, I was thinking the same thing.

If the military wants to bring that dog home, the dog can be put on a military transport plane.

I hardly think the Afghan government cares about an unwanted street mutt. They have plenty of them to go around.

I also think Spike may already be here in the U.S. I remember a story about a dog that was flown to the U.S. From Afghanistan, as a surprise to her Marine owner who didn't know she was being sent.

I watched a special on the dogs over there. The military (our military) isn't allowed to have base mascots. It was kind of sad how these men really do fall in love with these dogs. The military won't throw the dog on a transport and send it home. The soldier would have to pay to have it shipped.

I personally would not feel comfortable donating money to a website without knowing that a US organization was sponsoring it. I would want to know who the sponsor was and see all of the legal mumbo jumbo that go's a long with it.

These sites are more believable:

Operation Baghdad Pups

Actually, there are organizations already set up that help the Afghani street dogs. I Googled and found 'em.

Don'tcha just love the interwebz?

Mayhew International and Nowzad Dogs are in affiliation to care for and keep these animals safe. Some dogs are even sent to the U.S. To be reunited with their military buddies.

So I'm thinking more and more this "Save Spike" website is a scam to bilk kind hearted people out of money.

I would be hesitant to give money to bleeding heart bunny-huggers to rescue dogs in this country. I darned sure refuse to send my money to help some terrorist dog. It will probably set up sleeper cells to carry out attacks against car tires and fire hydrants. Seriously though I think money donated could be used to help get advaced medical treatments for children or a number of other things that have nothing to do with a stray dog. If the soldier wants his dog then he can get out his checkbook and pay for it. That's what I would do.
