Excited, Somewhat Early Friday Night Conversation

Thought I would get an early start. The excitement comes from being one week away from the Kentucky Derby weekend which starts on Friday with the Kentucky Oaks. Will be posting on that in the main Horse talk section. But of course will answer any questions here in our conversation.

How is everyone's week going. Upcoming plans? Things you are looking forward to. Anything troubling you- big or small? Maybe we can help.

I look forward every week to hearing from everyone and whats going on. My excitement this week is bitter sweet. My Aunt that I was visiting last Friday did pass away shortly after we left. Thamks to all who expressed kind thoughts. I also wanted yall to know I am available to listen if you ever need it.

So off topic folks- have at it.

Been having a craptastic week, myself ;-;

The biggest issue, of course, being told I get to have another surgery. I only just got out of my boot on Monday (surgery was in late Feb), so this has definitely put a damper on my life... and my plans moving forward.
There's a lot of bitterness in my life, these days v.v

I'll have to go into work for a few hours tomorrow. Not really excited about that...but it only ever happens at the end of the month and a little OT never hurt anyone.

My sister and niece drove down from Michigan to visit for the weekend. My dad has volunteered with our local high school band boosters for over 25 years and this is going to be his last year. The band's awards banquet is Sunday and they created an award in his name. It's going to be called "The Mr. Jim Volunteer Service Award." (Not really "Mr. Jim" but I'm not too keen on putting last names on online forums). My dad doesn't know all this is happening...so it will be quite the surprise for him. :D
@aubie, I'm sorry to hear about your aunt...but how great it is that you were able to spend that time with her!
@Zexious, what kind of surgery are you having on your foot? What a wonderful time of the year for it...not. :sad: sorry you have to go through that!

^What a fabulous way to commemorate your father's work!
And hey, OT is good for the check book ;)

The one I just completed was to do a few things--
-They cleaned some arthritis out of my ankle joint
-Took out some hardware, and put more in
-Fused a joint
-And finally shaved down some bone spurs.

The next surgery (which will be surgery number five from this accident) will require detaching the achilles, shaving down a large bone protrusion on my back of my ankle (think where the average sneaker hits your foot), then reattaching the achilles. It's a big, intensive, painful process.
Great ;-;

I am so bummed that you are STILL working your way back to health from your accident. you might explain to the others who haven't been on HoFo (HOrse forum) as long as we have what happened and how broke up you were.

all along, I've marvelled at how little you've indulged yourself in self pity. I see a pretty strong , positive person, and I respect that. it's ok to feel down, and you have every reason to , so please let your hair down and "whine" a bit. I like a nice Chianti, myself.

Well...tonight is horse lesson night. Hopefully that goes smoothly....it is really windy right now so I'm hoping Tiger isn't too spooky in the arena tonight.

Other than that, I have no solid plans for the weekend which is awesome!!! B/F will hopefully be out of the house tonight for a boys' weekend of camping & fishing. So I'm looking forward to a low-key weekend doing whatever I want :) My plan this weekend is to NOT spend money. All the work we've been doing outside is putting a hole in my wallet. Yet somehow, this week I still managed to find a way to buy a new pair of running shoes. Meh, I have a half marathon in a couple weeks, so that's my excuse ;)
@aubie, sorry to hear about your aunt; so glad you go to spend the time with her you did.
@Zexious, when is your surgery? That is a huge downer; hopefully recovery time is quick. I know that leg/foot surgeries can take awhile to heal. Hoping for the best for you!

^A quiet weekend at home sounds lovely!
Any specific plans? --Aside from not spending money, of course!

We haven't set a specific date yet--I'll have my next appointment in August, so it'll likely be September or thereabouts.
Recovery time is extremely long! I speak from experience, as this will be surgery number five on that foot in the last two years Dx But it could always be worse /shot

Are these surgeries from the horrendous fall you took, what, is it, two years ago or so? I am on the forum only sporadically, but every post I've read of yours, you never complain. I had just thought/assumed that you were recovered and doing fine. :sad:
I am really sorry to hear that you are still dealing with this....

^Yes ma'am, that's the one.
I've tried to keep positive, but it's started getting very hard. I'm growing bitter because this accident has taken every part of me:
-I can't work so I don't have my own money
-I can't ride
-Much of the time I can't even drive or work out... It's really tough )8

But I appreciate your kind words and sentiments <3
I guess I just gotta keep plug'n along.

I truly can't imagine what you are going through. I got injured once and couldn't work or drive for a few years, and that wretched feeling of dependency was more debilitating than my ailment. But at least I could ride and continue grad school. I really hope this will be your final surgery.

@Captain Evil -- Exactly!
It's an extremely frustrating feeling. Especially for someone like me who has always been an independent person. I started working at 15 so I could do what I like, when I like (and have, of course, always maintained a positive relationship with my family!) and now it's just like '???'

I'll just continue to live vicariously through others haha!
How are things on your half of the world?
