So a few weeks ago I had two 4/5 week old kittens dropped off at the farm. No big deal as I only had one barn cat left cause the neighbor claimed 2 of mine for some reason. Kittens were healthy other than wormy, so I dewormed them and they have been doing great. Well they always follow me to the horse barn evey morning to feed and this AM was no different until my dachshund decided to bulldozer one of them into my half frozen creek 30 feet from the barn. The creek is basically slush right now as it was 32-33 all night last night. Kitten ran off and disappeared. Searched for it and found it over 30minutes later only because my rottweiler was rolling it around with her paws. Picked it up, covered in ice and soaking wet, not breathing. Took it in the house and began to rub the kitten with a towel I had just took out of the dryer. After a few moments it began breathing and coughing and puking up water everywhere. So the good news I guess is the kitten was alive but very disoriented and very weak when I left. I had to leave for work. Left her sitting in a crate with nice clean towels near the wood furnace. House is staying about 70 right now, so I am hoping since I had to leave she will be ok when I get home. I have some pictures of her from this morning but my phone won't upload them to the site.
Here's to praying she is still ok and feels better when I get home. I think 3 o'clock is going to take forever.
Stupid dachshund, so mad at her right now. Yes, I do realize this is just a kitten, but still I couldn't just leave it to die.
Awe poor baby
You did the right thing!
I hope she is okay when you get home.
Crossing my fingers and adding her to my prayers, let us know what happens!
I am now thinking my rottweiler was trying to help. She was licking and rolling the kitten as if it was a newborn puppy. So now I am mainly upset with the dachshund cause after thinking it over I believe my rott knew what she was doing and was trying to revive it. Posted via Mobile Device
I know Rotties are great dogs, and that sounds like something they'd do. Mine were perfectly fine with our cats. We got a new rottie and he'd never met a cat in his 3 years of life. He was honestly trying to play, not trying to be vicious or anything y'know? Just play. She ended up getting hurt bad enough we had to euthanize her. I don't really blame him as he didn't do it to hurt her. So it makes sense your rottie would be trying to help the kitten, they usually have that temperment Posted via Mobile Device
My rott tends to be very sweet and motherly anyway. Right now especially so cause she is in heat. She will pick up her toys she usually destroys and push them towards her belly and try to get them to nurse. Kinda comical to watch. Posted via Mobile Device
Someone is feeling much better but is now demanding to be a house cat and not a barn cat...at least for a few days to make sure she is OK! :happydance:
These first two are from this morning after she was breathing again and then the last one she is happily scarfing down food tonight!
Aweeee!!! I am SOO glad she is alright! She is ADORABLE!!! Send her my way, I will happily take her bundle of cuteness <3
