Ok, so since I am at home sick *yuck* I got bored and went onto my Facebook Page.

I decided to go to "Find Friends" and I was typing in names of people I grew up with and this and that, so then - this brilliant idea popped into my head "Lets see how many have the same name as me" so I typed my name into the Friend Finder....and to my surprise - wow, 3 pages of people with my name!

I wonder if they are relatives? My Great, Great, Great Grandfather moved from Quebec Canada, to British Columbia Canada to start a Cattle Ranch.

This Ranch was built in the small community of Horsefly, British Columbia in the mid 1800's. This ranch held Jessie James and the Younger Gang when they were on the run from the law - neat little story there....anyways, generations of my family were born on that ranch and raised, including my Grandfather Wilfred, his brothers - my Dad and Aunt as well.

My last name is Patenaude *French pronounced Pat-in-no*

So that got me wondering - how did last names derive? Where did they start? What were the origions of last names? And, why aren't we related to those with the same last name?

I wonder if I am related to all those on the 3 pages of Patenaude's on Facebook?

ODDLY ENOUGH! I found a girl, same name - who is into horses as well. While I am an Eventer, she's a Hunter. And she is in Quebec Canada.

I am 1/2 Irish and 1/2 French Canadian - makes me wonder!

There was a story on the news recently about a girl who did the same thing - searched her name on Facebook. She found a guy with the same name (the name was Kelly whetever-the-last-name-was -- one of the more gender neutral names) and they ended up communicating, falling in love and are about to marry.
