feeling SMUG now!

Well north wales is gridlocked. Weve had a foot of snow fall in a couple of hours, people are panicing and cars are going nowhere.

When the snow came I was down at the yard doing Reeco. So I did him faster then I have ever done a horse before. Then I drove to Llandudno junction, did a lightning fast shop because we have no food at home and if we get snowed in then I am stuck.
Then I attempted to get home. Now my dad spent 20 years of his life in Obramago, so is used to driving on snow and as he put it if he can take a 2CV over austrian mountains in snow then he can get any car anywhere! Last winter he taught me how to drive on snow!

So I set off, I've seen the duel carriage way crawling, attempted to get up the black cat hill and came down backwards, then made my way through Mochdre where I got stuck behind people who were skidding all over the road, who decided that stopping was a good idea and then couldnt get going again (who'd have thunk it!!), who thought that they should go everywhere at 5mph and then wondered why they couldnt get up the hill. People going too Fast, People going too slow, believe me a Isaw them all.

SO after sucessfully negotiating my way through mochdre I headed for a nice big road into colwyn heights, called kings drive, this road is very very steep, and a bit twisty but it is a main road and is quite sheltered so should have been alright. Well people were abandoning cars left right and centre, The radio blaring out that colwyn heights was cut off due to the snow, even 4x4's were struggling. My little A class just tootled up it in 2nd gear at 20mph, a few wiggles on the way to get the best of the road but that was it. Then I managed to negotiate my way through more skidding cars up into the hills where I live. Now On my way I saw a 4x4 skid into a wall, 2 cars stuck on a hill and several cars abandoned. But I went past all of them, again 2nd gear, a few wiggles, had to go backwards at one point as I had to stop half way up a hill (stupid idiot sliding sideways down the hill got in my way) and wasnt even going to attempt to get going again on the hill so reversed down and tried again. I then drove on int the deepest darkest reaches of snowdonia national park! My ESP warning light was screaming at me (gone well past the point of just flashing at me). It took me an hour and a half to do a 15 min journey......

I'm now sitting at home toasty warm thanking god my dad taught me to drive in snow and feeling rather smug about the fact that I can take a little front wheel drive car places where people cant even take a 4x4.

I'm also firmly of the oppinion that 3/4 of the people in this country cant drive and shouldnt have a licence and driving on snow SHOULD be an essential part of the test, I know it would be impossible for it to be in the practical but It should be in the Theory test at least!

RIDE your horse FORWARDS and keep him STRAIGHT
