Carry-On rules.
You get 1 personal item (think purse, briefcase, laptop bag) and one piece of carry on luggage.

Liquids can go in your carry on. But don't pack them in there. You will have to send them through the x-ray machine separately, not inside your bag. So keep them easily accessible and ready to pull out when you go through security. All liquids must fit into One, 1qt clear plastic Baggie. The individual liquid containers in your baggie cannot be over 3oz ea. Gels, pastes, anything not a solid qualifies as a liquid.

If you have liquids beyond those restrictions, you can pack them in your checked luggage.

Nothing sharp or pointy in your carry on. Someone shared the TSA restricted list already.

When putting a carry on suitcase with wheels into the overhead storage bin above your seat, point the wheels out towards the aisle. It helps to get the door shut. If it won't fit, they will check it with the regular luggage and you can pick it up in baggage claim.

Leave yourself lots of time. Better to be early than rushed.

I have only flown once since 9/11 so I'm not very knowledgeable in the rules and such. I remember that I did wear a tshirt, cargo pants and flip flops and all I carried was my purse with wallet and a book so going through security was a breeze.

The takeoff is awesome and quite a rush! As far as the actual plane trip, I always watch the flight attendants. I figure as long as they are calm, then I can be calm. Enjoy your trip

I always find the moment of take-off feels a lot like the take-off for a jump lol - but then you keep going up and up. Always my favourite bit of the flight. Less keen on landing, especially in rough weather, but it's not that scary.

OP: Just remember that a WHOLE lot of things have to go wrong in a plane, both human and electronic, before anything major happens. Enjoy the flight! I prefer middling length flights, myself, because then there's enough time to fit in a movie or two

I am really excited now. Not so much nervous. But the way some of you guys are describing the take off it sounds like a roller coaster(or taking off in my dad's race car =P). I can't wait to go I feel like such a kid! We're going to Universal and I almost cried with joy when I told my dad we HAVE to go to the Hogwarts Castle and I have to get a wand and we have to try butter beer. He knows how much I love the Harry Potter series and he got really happy because he said it was like looking at a 10 yr old me again with how excited I got. I was literally jumping around =P

The first time I ever flew was when I was 16. Best. Experience. Ever! Everybody was so friendly! Free drinks, they let me keep my ipod on during take off so I could record take off. Very nice. Once I got off I had several people, passengers, flight attendants and even the pilots approach me ans ask me if I was satisfied with my first flight ever. It was VERY fun. Turbulence and the sharp turn while landing was amazingly fun, made me giggle. LOL

Don't worry about the metal in your wrist, just tell security in case the metal detector beeps you, you should be fine. My mom has a pace maker so she couldn't even go thru the detector, they had to pat her down.

TSA.gov has excellent information on what you can and cannot bring in your carry on. Remember the 3-1-1 rule! :) It saved my butt.

I wouldn't wear jewelry or belts. And wear flip flops, sandals or any other kid of slip on shoes, then change into sneakers after you pass security. That's what I did.

Take off and landing is fun! Take off is loud, and the pressure pins you back. Your ears pop like crazy too! Bring gum if this bothers you, but it didn't with me. Landing also pops your ears, and it's very fun as well.

If I were you I'd bring an iPod or a laptop with you to watch movies, listen to music, catch up on music/school. Some planes have wi-fi (domestic flights only), but many do not. Make sure you put your phone on airplane mode or turn it off too! :)

Have fun! I really enjoyed my first time flying, I can't wait to fly again.

I've flown for 40 years and it's not as much fun now as it used to be, but it's still a great way to get places fast. One thing I was amazed about was that although you're not allowed to bring any sharp or pointed objects with you, they totally have no problem with my knitting needles. I've knitted my way across the continent!! This makes absolutely no sense to me but it's reassuring to know that if anything DOES happen, I'm armed! LOL

I'm not a complete idiot--there are parts missing!

What you have become is the price you paid to get what you used to want.

I tried drag racing once or twice and that is exactly what it feels like but way more powerful than anything I'd ever driven. It really is cool!

And I'm envious of the trip to the HP park. My husband wants to go there so badly! We will need pictures you know!

EvilHorseOfDoom - I'll definately have a butterbeer for you =)

Jake and Dai- Don't worry I plan on taking a TON of pictures. I'm sure some of them will make their way here! I'm so excited to go! I'm pretty sure I'm more focused on going to Hogwarts than going on the plane ride now hahaha.

My dad keeps making fun of me for wanting butterbeer haha. He texted me a picture of the TV cause Harry Potter was on and his message was "Are you going to be home for dinner? BTW bring some butterbeer home...oh wait you don't have any" Oh dad how I love him =)
