Getting boot polish *off* a boot?

It's a very long and complicated story, but there is boot polish on my favorite pair of barn boots that I want removed as quickly as is possible. Any ideas? It was only put on today, and I don't care if the solution could take off some of the original polish as well.

Ummm normally you just get a rag and rub it off??
