Getting a job at a stable??

I want to get a job this summer at a stable so I can be around horses and have more experience with them before I go off to college to be a trainer.

I have three phone numbers of local farms, and I want to call this week. When is the ideal time to call, and what should I say? Should I be like:
"Hi my name is Amy and I was wondering if you guys are hiring?"

I also need a way to say that I could clean almost anything or groom or exercise or whatever. This is the first time I've ever looked for a job

Is there a name for a program that you work for the people and then they let you ride or whatever? Do you think they'd help me work with the horses in training eventually, since I've trained horses before?

Don't call, go in directly and speak to the Barn Owner, or the Barn Manager - most of the time, the BM is the BO.

Just shake his or her hand and introduce yourself and lay all the cards on the table.

Most of the time though, barns usually have their aids - and most of them are boarders who are working to help cut board costs down, or are working students.

But - give it a shot. Don't call, go in personally.

I will for two of the three, the third I'll have to call because they keep the gate to their drive locked ;P
