GPS pronunciation??

This is kind of a stupid question, but on a Garmin/Tom Tom GPS, how does it pronounce 'Des Moines?' You know how the Moines part is said with an o sound, I thought the GPS said it with an a sound, and sort of made it sound like one one word, like demoine. My sister thinks it says des monays. Anybody know how it says this? I know, silly question but its been driving me crazy!

Haven't used a GPS over there but I hear on TV a lot of people pronouncing it Demoine to my ear.

I will say GPS attempts at pronunciation can be quite quirky, I've almost missed a couple of turns because what the GPS was attempting to pronounce and the street sign I'm looking at is not the same.

Des Moines is pronounced without the s sound because it's French. I don't know how our GPS says it but for Des Moines in Iowa, Demoine would be correct.

Sorry. I don't know how the GPS pronounces Des Moines.

But, the funniest pronunciation I've heard from one was on a friend's. She was wanting to show me how cool it was as we drove to my place north of Sturgis, SD. The silly thing pronounced South Dakota Highway, as: "Sow Duh Hi Wuh." Still makes me laugh when I think of it. I made it do it over and over.

My in-laws live in Iowa, so they've had an opportunity to use the GPS in Iowa; their Garmin says de-moyne, which is correct.
