Talking Growing out of make up...hmmm

I'm talking about growing up and accepting the way you look. Not that there is anything wrong with me and I fully believe perfection is in the eye of the beholder. If you think you're beautiful, you are and personality trumps all looks. (again personal opinion). But In the past year and a half I've realized I don't try to "look good" when I'm out and about.

When I was in middle school I wore make up to hide my acne, then I added dark eyeliner and eye shadow when I went through my goth phase. Then In high school I came out of goth and went over the top glam and crazy hair colors for a couple years. That was a disaster. Finally I mellowed down into cover up to even my skin tones and some eye liner and chap stick or lip gloss whichever one happened to be in my pocket. I also let my hair grow back out to blond. That stayed through first year of college and when I turned 20 I changed my eyeliner to a dark brown thin line instead of jet black and thick, I'm told it brings my blue eyes? Whatever works I guess.

Within the past year and a half, since I was 20 I've noticed I just don't care about looking good anymore. I used to put on make up to go to safeway at 2 in the morning to get yogurt!!! I used to go home from whatever barn I was at and change into nice clean clothes and redo my face before going out to do whatever silly thing I had to do. It was rare I had an occasion where I actually should have dressed up and looked good but I did it anyway. Because I really cared how I looked it was almost like I needed that public approval of " look at me I'm pretty" which in retro spec was a pretty snobby way to think.
Then I went out the whole day without make up, I was in a hurry. Just brushed my hair threw on some sweats and a t shirt and left the house. When I got home I realized it didn't look bad at all, actually natural looked better for me. I've since gone to jeans and a t shirt, most of the time in muck boots too since I work at two barns and any arrans are done on the way to or from work. Unless I have a horrible acne break out I might run a light concealer coat over my face but that's as far as it goes. Now I'm in the mindset "I'm taking a shower sometime later why waste the make up now?" I think that's a good place for me.

I guess I've just realized my personality gets more attention than my looks, and I'm not above average by any means. I have my good and bad days but I really don't care anymore. My horse and students aren't going to judge me based on my looks. I don't get up anymore and spend an hour to look perfect anymore, my boyfriend loves it because we can leave the house faster. Haha. I think I've finally grown out of make up. Granted if the situation calls for it I'll pull it out of the box and paint my face but other than that it's not important to "be pretty" anymore. Since I haven't been wearing make up my skin has looked more healthy and that's just awesome.

Just had to get that out.

Oh and a tip for skin care. Those big red acne zits that hurt really bad. Honey and aspirin masks work wonders!!!! There's a thousand recipes online for them and they reduce size and swelling and redness in just a few minutes!

Ps: sorry for any spelling mistakes. It's late.

I know exactly how you feel. In highschool, all I cared about was looking good. I looked like a hooker will all the makeup I wore. I would get all dolled up to go running or to go to the barn 0_0 I don't know why on earth I had friends. And now watching my cousins, who are in highschool, they take about two hours to get ready (which used to be me).

Being with my man for so long I realized that I'm not trying to impress anyone. I still wear mineral makeup to cover my redness and mascara, but nothing compared to when I was in HS. I feel so much better about myself being more natural. Don't get me wrong, I by no means am a hippie (though there is nothing wrong with it!) I shave and take care of things, but I just don't focus on the little details.

I think it's you being less insecure about yourself.

I'm the same now too. Used to spend hours getting ready just to run down the shops. Now I only fuss if I am actually going out to dinner or something. Just down the road to see the horses? Nothing, no make-up, hairs just thrown back and usually wearing the oldest jeans and shirt in my wardrobe. Neither the horses nor my boyfriend seem to mind haha

I think I'm going somewhere around a middle course . I still have my makeup that I wear daily. It's still pretty invisible, just a foundation, powder and stuff for covering pimples + a bit mascara. I don't think I'm that ugly without makeup but I love watching myself in a mirror with a bit makeup on my face. Makes me feel a bit cuter . I do always wear that makeup if I go a shop or somewhere where's a lot of other people around me but don't need it if I for example take my mom to work in morning or check a mailbox at our yard.

On the other hand I barely ever wear anything more showy. Can highlight my eyes a bit more if there's something extra particular in the offing. And I never had that "monster makeup" stage back to my adolescense. Actually I didn't wear makeup at all untill my upper secondary (senior high).

Oh, wait! I think I perhaps had a some kind of monster makeup phase. Tho I was a child then, close to my adolescence and wanted to wear no other makeup but flashy red eyeshadow and then sometimes a flashy red lipstick A LOT .

My old first boyfriends silly middle school things guy came out to the barn a while back. A friend told him where I was and he hunted me down, we're still friends since that's all we really ever were. He found me and said wow, no make up! I like it! You're a real girl after all! Made me feel extra pretty! Haha

Haha I think the last time I wore make up was about 6 months ago, and that was only mascara. It's a rare day for me that my hair even gets a spritz of hair spray - usually thrown up in a ponytail is my M.O. But I was the same way, in high school it took me about 2 hours to get ready for school in the mornings. These days, I get out of bed, get my son up, dressed, and fed, and out the door to give him a ride to school all within 15 minutes. There's something incredibly liberating about not giving a darn anymore. It's not that I'm shabby or slobby - of course I still am neat and clean etc, but it's kind of a form of self actualization to not need to paint yourself to think you look presentable.

My hair sometimes gets blown dry but most of the time I'm out of the shower, throw my barn clothes on and head out. It can air dry on the freeway with the windows down if it's really really wet.

In high school I wore makeup but the powders dry my skin out instantly and the creams or moose make me break out. I gave up haha. I wear eyeliner and mascara and that makes me happy. My skin isn't bad anymore so I really don't see the point in makeup anyway.

As for my hair. I'd prefer to catch an extra hours sleep than bother waking up an hour early to straighten it. Luckily my hair is in a hairnet all day anyway. If I got out to a dinner or out with friends I'll straighten it but for the general day its wavy and I roll it up to keep it out of the way lol.

Sleep over rules make up and hair any day for me. Normally I take a shower when I get home from the barn way after dinner so i've had a good 12 hours of making it really nice and gross. Haha. When I take a shower in the morning is purely for the rest of me and a wake up routine. I wash my hair the night before. It still gets wet though and that's why a 15 minute free way drive is good! Sometimes I reverse it, depends on how sleep I am.
If I have huge under eye bags I'll veil powder the backs and put on a little eye liner so my eyes don't look sunken and sickly but then I'm done.
