Guess what?!

I just got to take a ride on a B-17G bomber! It was totally awesome! I have lots of pictures to share but I have to upload them later. Oh, well. But the ride was definitely worth the money I spent on the ticket. Ah, why not. I guess I can put up a couple pictures, I have the time.

This particular model was used mainly in World War II and was taken out of commission shortly after the war ended. These bombers are now mostly seen in war movies. There are only twelve B-17s that are still used for flying presently.

The one I visited never saw combat because it was built too late, but it's still a valuable part of history.

Bomb number 32.

This bomber held a total of 42 bombs at a time.

So, yeah, I had to stand really far away to get the entire bomber in one picture...

The walkway over the bomb bay. Yes, the bomb bay is open.

Some of the 50 caliber feed for the the guns. Which by the way were so awesome looking.

The view from the the top turret window, they had removed the glass allowing me to stick my head outside the plane as we were flying.

Amazingly the bomber didn't need all that much speed to get off the ground due to it's large wingspan width and length. And unless you didn't hear the tires skid, you wouldn't have realized the bomber landed. The pilots had a lot of practice.

One of the side gunners views.

View from the navigators seat. Where I started out at.

View of the propellers while in flight.

And one of the coolest but strangest seats in the plane. The nose gunners seat. It was strange because it's a really weird feeling to have the sensation of not having anything between you and the ground while flying at about 200 mph.

Another view from the front gunners position.

And last but not least. The cockpit.
