I will be the first to admit that I am a big fan of the show. Yes....it has some very "fake" horse training in some episodes, but we all know better than to believe some of it. Having said that, I love the storyline and the characters and I can't help but be attached to a horse tv show that is shot literally in my backyard. Appreciate they have kept all the original names of the towns and cities here where we live.

The show is very down to earth and most of the actors live here in the area and are actually great when recognized by their fans, which makes me appreciate them that much more.

Any other fans out here?

It is a good show, and the characters are quite grounded which shows a lot about their characters. They just posted that they are going to have season 10 which is really exciting.
Excited to see where they are going to shoot this time outside of the regular sets. I just realized that they have live blogs spots that I didn't realize they had!
They were just shooting outside at the arena we ride at, so I'm really curious how busy they are going to be this season here in town.

Looking forward to seeing how the next season goes!

I never really had much interest in it and never watched a single episode. I knew it was shot in the area which is kinda cool. But then a non-horsey friend was telling me about it and I thought what the heck...I'll give it a shot. Now I'm in season 2 and I really enjoy it. Kind of cheesy sometimes, but it is entertaining. Aside from some of the horse training stuff, the one thing that drives me crazy about horse tv shows/movies is when they have the horses making noise all the time. My horses hardly ever make noise......but aside from that, it is well done.

I only got about halfway through the first episode before that drove me crazy.... I've wanted so badly to watch it, and it keeps getting recommended to me. I will try again, but I've got to work up to it haha :runninghorse2: Maybe one day while I'm doing dishes I will try, that seems like the best time for me to warm up to tv shows haha

The irony is, I grew up in the area - a relative owns a farm right there - and I know some of the actors / staff, and have never watched one single episode completely. I've tried and rarely get past ten - fifteen minutes before flipping the channel.

Here's why - the training is not only fake but at times poor. There are a few times they could easily have prompted some education on serious issues either through the show or as some sitcoms do via commercials at the end of the show but never do. It is a soap opera, maybe just my luck but the episodes I have had the "fortune" of coming across they spend 95% of the time complaining about life and the last 5% is a "oh this is a horse show, let's show some horses". I mean I just skimmed season 9 / episode 7 ... 8 minutes out of 50 actually showed horses, definite value for money.

I grew out of shows like this when I was a teenager - The Saddleclub and similar.

I'm late on this thread, BUT.
I started watching it a few weeks ago. I'm on season 3 halfway through- catching up slowly because I know there's 10 seasons & I need something to occupy my time.

It can be cheesy, I agree but I am ADDICTED to it. It's so good!
True, @cbar I also noticed that!!!!!!! And it'll be like the same noise! LOL I'm like there's no way the horse is making that noise haha.

But I really like it. :)

Was curious to read this thread since my 12 year old has gotten really into this show. She is watching it on Netflix. I've only ever been able to watch a few minutes, but it looks pretty kid-safe. I just couldn't stand the teen drama. I'd probably like it if I was younger, so I'm not knocking it, it's just not my thing.

Thanks for mentioning the poor training. I wouldn't want my daughter to try some of the training on our horses. It seems like the values promoted are ok though right? Horses, family, nature, that sort of thing? Lots of boyfriend trouble of course, but all teen shows are like that.

I started watching it on Netflix because I was desperate for a TV show. I was sucked in by the second episode. I've really enjoyed it and to be honest, I Think it's one of the better "horsey" shows because they characters really are fairly decent riders. It was neat watching Malory's character go from a complete beginner to an ok rider. I was a big fan of the saddle club just because I was desperate for horsey tv way back when and I remember it drove me crazy that the "super talented" rider could barely sit the trot. The storyline is fun and for the most part realistic. They throw some crazy twists in there but it makes it fun.

I was really mad at them though for two episodes that they had. I won't go into detail because some folks haven't watched but they had to do with Jack and Paint. I have a 33 year old at home so those episodes had me BALLING. I was angry with them! That was like the sneaky trick they pulled on that movie Sweet Home Alabama with the **** dog cemetery, it's just mean! :)

@Acadianartist it's really clean TV. The training methods aren't all bad and they focus alot on safety. The teen drama is nice and clean, Kissing is about as "dirty" as it gets and there isn't a ton of that in it. They have grown up plots going on as well. While the focus is on Amy and Ty there is also a focus on Jack (the grandpa), the dad, and the older sister so it's got a little something for everyone...

Thanks @farmpony84 ! That's what I thought, but it's nice to hear it from someone else since I haven't watched it that much. One of these nights I should make popcorn and we can watch it together. Might be some good mother-daughter bonding time.

I decided to give the show a try after this thread. I'm on episode 2 so I still need to see more for a judgement. But I've always been against horse movies/shows, because they always seem to central around two themes: Rehabbing crazy/dangerous horses a la horse whisperer type crap (Usually teenage girls), or they have to save the family ranch because they don't have enough money. This show seems to hit both of those, but I've decided to give it a chance anyway.

I think the main reason I got into it is because it's filmed just a couple kms down the road from us.
The storyline is interesting and I agree that they have build the plot to fit a lot of age groups. Good family show.

Eh... it's OK. I did watch several seasons of it a few years ago. It just had FAR too much drama for me. I enjoyed the horse stuff, sure a lot of fakey things but it's pretty good as far as fictional horse shows go, but the human drama was just too much for me. I'm not a 'soap opera' kind of gal. DH and I are just finishing up 'the office' on netflix, which has a lot of drama but the whole thing is a comedy so I can handle it.

I'm an odd one. I hate all action, all drama, etc. It has to have a mixture. I do enjoy the marvel stuff. And I will always be a sucker for kids' animation movies, LOL!

My mom loves Heartland though.

Ive been hooked for a while...on season 9 now and catching up to the current episodes fast! Some of the drama gets really really old to me, as Im not into the highschool/boyfriend drama but besides that I find it tolerable. The horse training is pretty entertaining, but at this point everyone seems to have their own idea of how to do things I just go along with it!

I am driving my husband insane watching it though!

I'm obsessed, and I've finished it all so now I have to wait until they make season 11! Which they agreed to (yay)
I must admit, I didn't like it when I first saw it, drama, terrible acting etc. But if you can manage to push through the first couple seasons, the acting improves and you do get hooked!

I'm from Aus, so it is sooo different to our scenery looks stunning, would love to see Canada one day!

You guys are harsh! You have to come at it like you do the hallmark channel at Christmas time. Good old fashioned love stories, home, family, and honest values. You have to let the acting and the horse training go. And to be truthful, most of the horse training has real "stuff" to it, like the join up and the T-touch and giving to the bit, etc... It's just that they skip tons of steps and gloss over it so that the training is a quick glance and an overnight fix.

Just let it go and love it! (Can you tell I'm a hopeless romantic?) I also LOVE "when calls he heart" and "Chesapeake shores"....
