It's a bit late, but my "homemade" gifts are blankets. My family got them the last two years and this year I'm making them for my BOs and their kids. The weekend after Thanksgiving, Joann Fabrics has their blizzard fleece for $3 (versus $11-13 at regular price), which drops the price of an average blanket from around $45 to around $15. I have to make 10 this year between my BOs and other friends who are getting them. I know when I got the first portion of my fleece on Black Friday, I saved over $275 on the fleece.

I also just bought remnants from Joann's and Walmart and just finished making 27 fleece and rice bit warmers for all of the boarders, per my BO's request after I showed her that I made one out of some extra fleece. They turned out great.

*disclaimer* I am not an artist by any stretch of the imagination and I haven't carved anything in years...I'm surprised my dremel tool still works it's been sitting for so long

I'm not finished, didn't get to start until late because of a tendon injury in my hand but anyway, I decided to make a stall sign for my only boarder. She's also my Dr. And doesn't want or need for much so something homemade she appreciates.

I have some touching up to do, router the edges, finish sand the surface, then I plan to stain the carved out spaces with cherry or mahogany stain and then clear poly the whole thing.

Here's what my in process work looks like.

This year I have made a few.

I have done a few canvases for close family, using the melted crayon technique that is floating around on pinterest.

I have also "modded" some wine glasses - dunked the base and part of the stem in blackboard paint, wrapped up with a box of chalk.

Also a favourite, for my younger cousins, is my "cookies in a jar" - it's a large jar filled with the mixture to make choc-chip cookies.
