How can you protect yourself against this kind of identity theft???

http://www.wimp.com/copymachines/

Unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable and so ****ed scary that data like this can be had for a few hundred dollars when you buy a used copy machine ...

I dont think one single person on the face of this planet is safe from having their personal information stolen any longer ...

That's scary o.O. Actually never thought that before.

That is so scary! Especially when you think about all the stores that have copier machines FILLED with hundreds of people's documents. :S

Wow.

How do you protect yourself? You keep yourself educated by reading and watching stories like this. You take precautions; for internet transactions, I think I will start using a reloadable credit card. I always tear up my receipts and bank slips and deposit them into at least 2 different trash cans. Call me paranoid, but I take almost every precaution I can.

I usually tear up mine too or then burn then. Still never thought that 2 different trash cans thing, thanks for the tip.

It's also good to notice how much you tell about yourself on Internet. Some communities who are very open and warmhearted can make you want to tell more than it's wise. Especially if the place (forum etc) save all the info you send, the totality of your info can tell more than you want. You never know who will actually read that info and what s/he'll do with it.
