We still haven't gotten our share of the storm here. However I know the most of it is over and there have been some really heart breaking news stories. A woman in Toronto was killed by a Staples sign falling from the wind.
How are our HF members doing? Is everyone safe and dry? Are everyones animals okay?
Horses fine-they are in Central NY. Here in Va a mess, but water in the basement was all we had-not great, but feeling grateful. Lost power only briefly, and new sump pump working overtime.
Well you could just have an indoor swimming pool instead of pumping it all out lol. Glad to hear you and your family are safe.
I honestly don't know what we are going to get of it. It was calling for 100mm of rain and high winds. But that has changed and it keeps changing. So who knows what we will get.
We made it through ok here. North of us lost power but ours just flickered. I kept the horses in since Monday afternoon and they were happy to get out today for a little bit. It's still raining but the winds have calmed somewhat. I had a bit of water damage to my breezeway but nothing drastic. Just needs a little caulk around the chimney. Same for the window in the chicken coop.
Brrr, we're just getting some REALLY cold rain, that mixed with the strong winds coming off of Sandy made me bust out the blankets a good month early O_O Poor horses were shivering like crazy.
My parents lost their house, many of my aunts and uncles who live close by them have also lost their houses. Many of my friends are homeless, my sisters job burned down...
But they're all safe. Now just to assess the damages and start rebuilding.
So sorry to hear that, Breella.. hopefully they can all get back on their feet before too long.
I didn't think it'd have this big an impact, but I've heard that about forty people so far have died.. including a woman in Toronto after getting hit by a street sign.
As for around here, near the Maine border in New Brunswick.. we're getting loads of wind, thunder, lightening, etc.. and some rain here and there.
We are getting hit here right now. The thunder sent me shooting 20 feet out of bed from a deep sleep. Windows are rattling. We are under rain fall warning for 60mm of raim or more.
Breella I am so sorry to hear about your friends and family. Very happy to hear they are okay though.
Well SW coast of BC clearly didn't get hit but I had a momentary panic when I heard about NY as my cousin was living there for a bit but I think she's moved back for now her friends are still there though which must be scary. I know one girl on the east coast and I haven't heard from her....not sure if that's good or bad. I know there was a guy in New Jersey who had an extension cord out his window and was letting people charge there phones so everyone's helping each other out which is nice to know.
I'm writing this from Southeastern Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia. We're ok! Schools were closed for a week, some still are. We got about 4 or 5 inches of rain, and the highest wind gusts were about 81 mph where I live. part of split rail fence is down, and our little 3 sided shed flipped over. Yikes! Thank goodness though all the trees avoided our house and the barn, some people around this area are still without power; almost a whole week! I didn't lose power at any time during the storm. Hope everyone's okay from the storm!
Brella, I'm glad that your family is okay. I'm sorry about the loss of the homes and buildings.
4-5 inches of rain? sounds like a fall week in BC, we get it all the time!
