How to Massacre Fruit flies?

Ok horsey peeps, there's so much good advice on here about all sorts of things, so maybe you can help me with this. I am ADDICTED to summer fruit. But along with the fruit comes fruit flies.

How do I kill/keep away those little bug(ger)s?

Can't keep 'em away, but I try to minimize their impact with fly strips. Make sure you dispose of rotten fruit and peels by double plastic bagging and spraying them with insect killer before tying the bags shut.

my dad will take one of those little hand vacuums, either plug into wall or battery charge type, and using the hose attachment, literallly vacuum them out of the air or off the fruit. He makes it into a game, and does it daily. It does not get rid of them all, but makes for amusing target practice. Since they only live 24 hours, they die inside the vacuum canister.

I open my oven door and put a piece of tin foil with a mashed banana piece on it. The, when all the fruit flies are on it, I close the over door and turn it on low for a while. It kills all the flies. It also give the kitchen a nice baked banana smell. Do this a couple of times a week and it will do the job.

which is more devlishly cruel:

Vacuuming to their deaths or luring them into an oven, then baking them to death.?

Who cares?

The oven death is a lot quicker. Just saying.....

More importantly, IT WORKS!! NC can grow a lot of fruit flies, it seems.

Really simple method that works really well: Make a funnel out of a sheet of paper, with a hole just about big enough for a fingertip. Pour an inch or so of apple juice or apple cider vinegar into a large glass or small jar, and put the funnel in. The opening of the funnel should be a couple of inches above the liquid. When it's full of fruit flies drowned in the liquid, dump and refill.

I tried the apple cider thing and the flies just prefered my fruit. Only a few fell for the lure of the apple cider vinegar when there were peaches sitting out to tempt them.
