That's awesome Val! We've only found them in the yard once. My neighbor found 17 over the weekend growing in his tool shed under the tractor of all places! I'm going to go out today and see if there are any in my usual spots, I think that the cold nights over the weekend probably ended the season here but hope it didn't.

I'm still guessing how they could grow there though. I've been living in a house for several years, it's a first time I see them.

Good question. Any elm trees dying in your yard or nearby? The spores come from them and get blown around, in an open area it's possible, even in a woods we find them quite a distance from the dying trees. Also maybe spores in the mulch, I've heard of that happening before too when it came from companies that did mixed runs of lumber types.

Nope, no elm trees, and no new mulch for several years already. :) Mystery.....

I had no idea what these were. My boyfriend came over and asked to take a look through the woods. I said sure, how exciting! ...not... I hate mushrooms. Lol.

We found about 40. It took up a third of a 5 gallon horse bucket. Hahaha. Who knew?

my boyfriend said I should try them. They cook them in a load of butter and garlic. They might be okay then......maybe.......

We found them the other day when it was cold...mid-forties...he said once the sun comes out and its warmer, they will be all over and he's coming over to pick them.
