I got one shot

Okay, I just had to tell someone....bragging is what it is ordinarily refered to...soooo....

After I fed late this evening, I went to my tack shed to which I had left the door propped open. A rattler was on his way into the shed. Worse, when I slammed the door and jumped back - he retreated and went under the wooden pallet I keep an active bale on. He had a loud buzz (8 rattles), but a small head. I called for back-up (phoned the house for a flashlight and a gun). By the time I got what I needed, it was dark. With nothing but bubble gum and a prayer...a bb gun (can't risk higher caliber ricochet), and a flashlight - I had to crouch down and shoot it between the planks at an angle. I got it right between the eyes. My usual is a pellet gun...but I managed w one bb! Whoo hoo!

There is just as much horse sense as ever, but the horses have most of it.

DEAD EYE MISSY MAY!

Haha! Way to go! And in the dark? Woo hoo! BB GUN to boot, that's awesome'

DH killed a rattler 1/2 way in a bush, I was yelling at him that he was stupid cause he didn't grab my shotgun. He was ten feet away and shot THROUGH the branches with a .22 and laid it out, it didn't even twitch!

Sorry, shooting bad snakes really makes me happy! Way to go!

Go Fly's DH! I do not fire shotguns...to loud, to much kick...but I imagine you couldn't miss w one of those! I am like your DH..w a .22 I feel "well armed" against snakes...but it is so dammed rocky here - I can't fire one at the ground safely! I love a pellet gun...it is not a "big boys" rifle, but it comes in handy when snakes need taking care of and you can't use a higher caliber...or they bring you a bb gun.:)

That is remarkable aim. How close were you to the snake?
Do you get a lot of them on the property?

Do you kill any and all that you see, or only the ones that go into places like the shed where they become a danger to you or husband?

I am not familiar with rattlers, really. IF you can't tell.

I was only about 7 or 8 feet from the little bugger. I won't get much closer b/c they can strike the distance of their body, so they say. I am a gutless wonder...my husband uses a shovel - I would run before I did that!

We live in rattle snake country - they are everywhere. I only ever take their life if they are a threat to me, my family and/or animals. They are actually better than other snakes...they let you know they are there.

I went on a short-ish trail ride last week and we ran across 3...every single one was in an arroyo - where it is nice to ride, of course. It made me want to just ride over the rocks - which I did after number 3! We don't harm those...we just go around them.

I have only seen one once in the wild, and it was quite small. They have their place in the ecology, but I can imagine how 'creepy' that would be seeing so many of them.

We've killed 2 this year.

First one..... I figured oh what the heck, I live in the downright middle of nowhere, I don't have to get dressed to water the garden right? Yeah, so there I was in PJ's, no bra and a rattlesnake sitting right under the hose faucet 2" from the house! My very nice neighbor heard the screams, came running, killed my snake and didn't say a single word about my attire (or lack thereof). Hubby was mortified since our neighbor is the pastor of the local church and a very, very "proper" individual.

Hubby tested his 20 gauge on the other snake. We picked up snake "bits" for quite a while.

I never would have thought of using a BB gun, we have several of those. Better than summoning the neighbor when less suitably dressed!

FYI: My parents watched a documentary a while back and they said that Rattlesnakes in populated areas are actually evolving/adapting to NOT USE/HAVE THEIR RATTLES!!!! Either they are learning or the ones that survive/reproduce are the ones that don't rattle or use their rattle less, therefore the rattle is becoming obsolete. Scary. Thankfully we live waaayyyyyy out so hopefully it won't happen around here!

I've shoveled a bunch, keep one by the door. But I love love love my Semiautomatic 20 Gage! It's kind of loud but it really doesn't kick, I'll look up the brand, my Dad bought it for me for varmit/defense. It's a "blast" to shoot! The dogs are usually the ones that find the snakes in the brush and I go over and annihilate it! LOL!!! I don't take chances, those that come around here have a death wish. I have turkey here too so I can't wait for season, we see them in the yard and running in the driveway, yummy.
The other day I went to the new Cabela's and fell in love with a 9mm GLOCK 26, it's on my Christmas list, HAHA!!! Too bad they are soo ugly, I wish they would make them in green!

I'm still laughing, YOU SHOT A RATTLESNAKE WITH A BB GUN, BETWEEN the EYES!!! Ha HA HA!!!
