I met a beaver today! Pics!

I was stopped at a light after leaving the barn tonight, when I saw this... thing in the middle of the other lane. I look over and it's a beaver! I don't think I've ever seen a beaver outside of Lady and the Tramp or Narnia. But there he was, wandering into my side of the road.

He meandered up to a car, pawed at it, then continued to cross the road and stopped on the shoulder, very confused. I pulled off the road and went to shoo it into the ravine thing on the side of the road. Don't you know beavers get super aggressive! He would scramble at me and hiss, it was terrifying.

A guy who happened to work for the Fish and Wildlife department happened to drive by and pulled over. Then the beaver meandered into the middle of the intersection. An older couple [mid-fifties and either very brave or very dumb] used a blanket to shuffle/cover/shove/pick up the beaver and got him back to the shoulder he didn't want to be on. We waited with a cop for the F&W guy to get a pole and kennel, and I snagged the opportunity to take a bunch of pictures.

He was eventually put in a kennel and they took him to the dam nearby that they assumed was his.

So without further ado, meet Scott the beaver!

And a video of the being caught.

LOVE it!!! Nice job sticking around to prevent his demise Dare I ask where the name 'Scott' came from??? Lucky (?) he stuck around for a photo op for ya, Hubby and I found a porcupine crossing the road all slow until we broke out the camera, then it became a race-porcupine. We have one blurry shot of a grey thing running into the woods! Heheheh

I have never had the chance to see one alive. Although I do see them dead on the road occasionally :(

Bahaha. You of all people would find a beaver. I hope he's safe, but wow, I forget until I see one just how funny looking beavers are.

Their expressions remind me of an evil genius. Whispering softly with his hands up to his face- "Someday this world will be mine...someday".

Bahaha, it was great fun. The old man from the crazy old couple decided he looked like a Scott. Of course, we only assumed it was a male, so who knows, lol.

I definitely see the evil genius. The more he moved, the more nervous I got. He would be stunned and stay still for awhile, but when he started fidgeting, I just knew he was going to make a break for it and eat me. O_o

Those are amazing photos, ricci. Where those taken with your cell or did you have a camera with you? Poor guy, I wonder how he ended up lost and in the middle of the road.

I took the pictures with my iPhone. It sure is good for something, lol.

From what I understand, his dam really wasn't that far away. They think he wandered over and got up to traffic. He wasn't the most intelligent of creatures, but you could tell when he got to my side, he knew he didn't want to be over there and tried to go back.

I almost feel like I should have let him get hit by a car, I'm not sure he was bright enough for Darwin to keep alive, you know? I mean, even predators know how to "shoo," lol.

I'll probably spend some time today researching beavers. Figure out what they're habits are like and whatnot. Scott has piqued my interest!
