This has been my experience as well for the most part.
I am a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and we have a greeting time during the beginning of service before the offering is taken up. Everyone gets up and walks around saying hello to each other and welcoming the visitors. We always tell them out name and listen for theirs. Usually there are several members who will again seek out the visitors after service to see how they liked the service and further show our gratitude of their visit.
Just remember that church isn't what gives you courage and hope. It is he who created you who you can ask to give you those things. He is listening and waiting for you to ask him.
