I'm back!!

Hey guys!
Lacey and I have returned from camp! Well, technically, Lacey isn't fully back yet. She's at a house about halfway between camp and my house/my neighbor's house and she's coming the rest of the way tomorrow morning.

We had a really good summer.
Lacey was basically a pasture ornament all summer (and a demo horse) which she loved. I rode her a little bit but the short 15 minute rides we do with the kids were making her so mad (she wanted to go for longer or not at all, hahaha) so she became my staff/guest ride (which are 45minutes/hour long) go to horse as opposed to my all the time go to horse.
I also discovered in the last week of camp that Lacey can actually wear a curb bit, she just has issues with broken mouthpieces. So I started riding her in a curb (it was one of those straight bar ones with rings to make it a snaffle and rings to make it a curb) and she did really well. I even rode her out on the trail in it and she was great (with snaffles and broken mouth pieces she gets super spooky) so I'm really pleased about that. I plan to have my lesson kids continue to ride bitless though since beginners+curbs isn't a great idea in my opinion (unless the horse neck reins REALLY well, which Lacey doesn't for anyone other than me).

The horses were great this summer. Some were more annoying than others but that's to be expected. I have tons of pictures to post but my photobucket has decided to implode and I'm unsure of a good replacement (suggestions?).

I'm glad to be back to my forum family! I look forward to reconnecting with my friends and meeting all the people that have joined while I was away. :)

Until I figure out a replacement for the Pbucket, a singular picture will have to suffice.

So this was Lacey and I on "Unicorn Day" (the Corral had theme days every Friday): [and since the quality disappeared when I uploaded it, if you can't tell, my shirt has a Unicorn on it]

Good idea with the bitless ;) The camp I went to had the horses all in curb bits with the chain super tight, I'm surprised they'd trust total beginners and yanky 5 year olds with them. Glad you and your pony had fun. :)

Yay! I'm jealous of the theme days. We have theme weeks, but nothing really happens during normal activities. During Christmas in July, Abby had to wear her antlers for 2 days. She was not a happy pony. Haha.

If it makes you feel better, the majority of the horses at my camp have Tom Thumbs. Yeah. Not ideal. Not sure how we collected so many of them, but the horses are completely dead broke horses that want to do nothing more than sit nose-to-butt in a line for hours. And one of the first things we tell the kids when we're going over instructions and rules is "Do not yank on your horse's face. If you do, we won't feel all that bad when you're on the ground." So far, I haven't had a kid dumped because they were yanking on a horse's mouth.

I hope the curb option works out well for Lacey.

Cute picture! Glad the two of you had fun.

You are never better than anyone. Every rider has skills they need to improve. The only one you must compare yourself with, is you.

Sounds like you had lots of fun together. Wow, that was a long camp I have to say!

Welcome back. Great to see that mare again. Hadn't been on here for some time either, so it's great to see a familiar face.
