I have the rare opportunity to be able to have a 4 legged companion at my office - since I basically have to spend 30 yours a week there and 95% of the time I'm alone.
Anyway, since taking a horse to work is really out of the question, I've been looking at alternatives. A week ago Friday, I adopted up a 3 year old Australian Sheppard Named Carley. She had to be given away since the family who raised her sold their home and were moving to an apartment in Charleston. They had 3 dogs but could only keep 2.
I spent about an hour getting used to the dog at their place and we got along pretty well. The people were comfortable with us so she came home.
She was shy at first, which was to be expected, but every time she got comfortable and came up to us, we would pet and talk to her ... then 15 min latter, it was like she never saw us before. As my daughter said, it was like the movie 50 First Dates. There were some pretty tense times when she escaped from the house and it took us an hour each time to get her back. She covered nearly every inch of our 25 acres running at 90 mph all over the place.
Long story short, by Sunday she was much better and I took her to work on Monday. Now, a week latter, she is joined at the hip to me. We rough house, play fetch, she comes out with me to feed the horses, takes rides if I have to go someplace, etc. She is now off leash at the farm and stays pretty close.
Here are some pics of Carley ... the first one is the day I got her home.
