It's almost that time again!

Meaning, it's almost time for the Marine Corps Birthday Ball! We went last year and my boyfriend has already said that we're going again this year.

Soooooo, in an effort not to be rushed with finding a dress again, I'm starting saving and shopping early.

I'd love some opinions on what color and style I should go with.

Last year I wore a deep purple pleated satin charmeuse (I think...it was the flimsy satin, not the thicker more bridal satin) gown with one shoulder strap that split into two across my back and ruching on the bodice. With it I wore 6" peep-toe cheetah heels (not again! My feet died!) and a black bolero over it.

This year, I'm thinking I want something a little more structured. I didn't like the way my dress showed all the imperfections of my belly area and it was thin, so it was cold. I definitely want a different color, as well. It needs to be something that I can wear a bolero over (or make modest in another way) because I don't like showing a lot of skin (religious reasons). I am plus-size, but carry my weight well. I'm fair-skinned with medium-dark brown hair and blue(ish) eyes.

So, ideas?

Oh! And I'll probably be shopping on eBay since I'd like to keep it under $150 and there aren't a lot of places that carry formal gowns in my town. In fact, I can't think of any places that have them aside from during prom season.

I thought your title referred to Christmas it is right around the corner

Haha. No, I'm not into getting excited about holidays before the month they are in.

You should look at Dresses, Formal Dresses, Prom Dresses, Evening Wear at Simply Dresses

I got my gown for under $200 and it's beautiful. I, of course, am not going to wear it again but definitely don't get something too heavy either. My last gown weighed like 5-8 lbs and it was a huge workout just to sit up and down (which they do a lot of at those functions...)

For you I think something not too dark and not too pale. Maybe a bright green or navy. You could also do a darker red and it'd look great

Dress, Printed Empire Waist Plus Gown - Simply Dresses

How about something like this in the fuschia with a black bolero or shawl type thing?

Unless I lose two dress sizes between now and late November, their "plus size" isn't "plus" enough.

Which is really sad cuz I really like this dress (not sure why):

Those are both beautiful dresses. I'm sure you can find something similar on ebay!

Pesky dress size restrictions. It's like me and walmart.. nothing they advertise in my "size" fits me. Can be frustrating..

If you don't mind me asking what size you are, I can look on ebay and whatnot on your behalf ?

I'm trying to find the one pic I have that shows the entire length of me. My phone is being ridiculously slow.

Right now I'm a 20/22W (depending on brand/style/etc). My hardest area to fit is my bust (I'm a 42G/H).
