I cut off the top (first bone gone) of my right index finger and kept an appointment with an insurance agent (he said I'd be and easy sell at that point. I was.), and went on to a college class and took an exam.
Didn't ever go to a doctor for it. At first I kept it over my head during the appointment and the test so I wouldn't bleed as badly. Hurt? Oh, yeah.
I'd say the co-worker will be fine, except to the huge bills she will have.
I'm sorry that it happened and hope your coworker recovers and you don't pass out.
I'm kinda with boots. My great grandmother cut off her finger from the last joint (so the tip), took some superglue to put it back on and cease the bleeding for the most part, went about her day and then went to a walk in clinic after her business was done. Finger reattached perfectly and still works!
Yikes!! Being around ropers I've seen a few finger tips gone. They seem to not think its a big deal. My husband has three tips gone. But it still freaks me out and I want to pass out! I would be going to the hospital as well lol Posted via Mobile Device
Yeah-my BO desleeved (took the end off) her thumb a couple of years ago when she got it between a horse in a hurry and a gate. She had her son drive her to the ER, and call me to gather up the loose horses (in her yard, no biggie, since they just put their heads down and grazed)…I picked up the piece-literally and tok it to the hospital. Unfortunately it could not be replaced. I would think it would ba an ambulance if the victim gets shocky, is alone, etc. I probably would pass out if it happened to me.
Liligirl, how did it happen? I agree, the pain alone would send me to the ER.
My husband "desleeved" his big toe in high school. The wrestling coach threw up when he saw it! Naturally the boys thought that was hilarious. Somebody found it between the mats and sent it to the DR with him and it was all reattached.
Yikes Im a huge wuss and would probably end up bawling right there haha. I do not like seeing my own blood for some odd reason I can help anybody else when they get hurt but myself nope not happenin.
My moms phobia rubbed off on me lol. I used to completely lose it when I got blood drawn hyper ventalating, sweating, panicing all in one. Im better but I still get woozy when I see my blood in larger then a small cut
Yikes! I watched a show about this up and coming professional violinist who shopped off the top of her middle L finger while chopping onions. While it healed she practiced playing with re-fingering her pieces for 3 fingers. Her professor/couch told her to stop cold turkey bc she was going to ruin the musculature in her lower left arm. This was someone practicing 10-12 hrs/day.
Prayers sent for you coworkers' recovery.
the worst I ever did to my finger was once I was sewing and sewed right through my finger nail, and stopped with my finger tip impaled on the sewing machine. had to back the needle out of it. not pleasant.
OMG! I thought I was the only person in the world to do this! Except it was my thumb. I was pushing some denims through the presser foot and woosh! There went my thumb. To this day, the nail won't grow right.
Thought I should throw this in .....when it happens, if possible, put the tip of the finger in a baggie, and put that baggie on ice or in a larger baggie with ice in it......it will increase the chance of being able to reimplant it successfully--slows tissue damage.I get patients from the E.D. with their little baggies of finger tips to go to the OR for possible reattachment.
