Cowchick, I was talked off from lasik by my eye doctor (who's one of the best lasik surgeons in my area). Because in most cases you develop dry eyes after that (and if you already have it it'll be much worse). As someone with dry eye issue all I can say it's quite bad, and makes your eyes vulnerable.
Also almost everyone I know who had lasik still had to use glasses, especially while working on computer. One person I know (also with astigmatism) had to go through several lasiks (yes, something to consider if things won't go well), and didn't do any better in the end.
Sorry to sound disappointing. I didn't want to scare you away, but just wanted to share my experience (because lasik is a big thing, and you can't turn back after you are done). Please, make sure to talk to several different ophthalmologists before making up your mind. Personally I'd still consider special contacts if you don't like glasses as much.
