I have lived in Seattle all my life. Shootings were extremely rare when I was a child. Now, the increase in shootings is tied in large part to the influx of gangs, and in particular, hispanic gangs up from California. And, since funding for mental health treatment or care of the homeless is virtually nonexistant , they go untreated and living on the streets. I heard that mental illness had something to do with today's killing.
I do not carry a gun. I am just careful where and when I walk at night. As for being a victim of a stray bullet, as have two persons in the last week here, there is nothing one can do about that. It's like any other freak accident, it happens and you cannot predict where or when. But, it is really sad that people are using guns to settle arguments at the drop of a hat these days. (which is what was happening when the two bystanders where shot, one in the leg and one fatally in the head)
