Made awesome Dutch oven dinner tonight!

I just wanted to brag that it was my turn to cook dinner tonight, and I did it all in the Dutch oven. It was soooooo delicious!!! I made a ground turkey and zucchini and tomato bake (main course) with a blueberry lemon cobbler for dessert! I've always done peach and cherry cobblers, but thought while camping this last weekend that a blueberry and lemon cobbler might be worth the experiment. I love cooking in the dutch oven, I swear that's the only way I can cook, lol!

Sorry for the brag, just thought i'd share.

Anyone else cook with Dutch ovens?

I love to dutch oven cook. We camp with our scouts, so we cook in them all the time. Stews, chilis, braised meats and casseroles. Biscuits work well as does corn bread too. My scouts love to make cobbler then scout ice cream. For that you take a ice cream base with sugar, milk and condensed milk, pour it in a zipper bag, place that bag in a bag filled with ice and ice cream salt and throw it back and forth like a ball till it freezes...fun and yummy. Over cobbler yummo....

I don't even own a dutch oven!

Now pressure cookers and crockpots, I love them! Especially the crockpot, nothing like coming in from the barn when it's snowing to a hot and ready dinner.

the nice part about dutch oven cooking is that you will get more iron in your diet. SEriously. Especially if you use tomatoes . The acid in them leaches some of the iron out of the pot.
Of course, NEVER clean them with soap. Never. They get better and better with age. Makes great cornbread. Pot roast, baked chicken, bean casserole, etc. etc.

I line my Dutch ovens with tin foil and spray a little cooking spray. Then when dinner is all gone, I throw away the tin foil, and wipe the extra juice out, then re- spray the cooking spray. Ready for next time. Easy clean up if you ask me.

We use a parchment liner in ours that they sell in Academy. That way I can just dump the parchment in the fire after the food is all gone.
