    my horrible and blessed day

Today I went riding on a trail ride with three other horses and riders. One of the horses spook at a snake and runs off leaving morgan on the ground she was okay so she got on my horse with me and we was walking then for the first time ever my horse spooks and bolts. Duke was running towards a tree and at the last minutes me and morgan fall off.. well I hit my left arm and side of my body and I slide into a tree.. I get up then a couple of minutes morgan stands up and I start walking after my horse. I had no idea how hurt I was until taylor(trail rider) said my arm was horrilbe and my back.. well. I finally get my horse and morgan and I go inside and I take a rinse shower. Well by then my arm was a baseball swollen arm. Well. I take a bath with my back burning like crazy. Then my parents take me to the er and we stay there for like four hours. Well my arm isnt broken but there could be a hairline fracture the x-ray missed so now my arm is in a sling with ice and my back looks like a cat used me as its scratching post. It kills me to lay back!! But im blessed because I told morgan if I leaned forward and fell off that way I would have probably broke my neck because I wouldve hit the tree airborn. And I was wearing a helmet that is one reason im in my room and not in a hospital bed. My helmet got beat up extremely bad. It saved me from a head injury!! WEAR YOUR HELMETS!! I used to think I shouldnt have to but im glad I did!! Please pray for my friend and I and comment if you like!! I would love to talk to someone right now!! :)

Ohh... Bad luck :(. Better luck next time!

Wearing a helmet is a sagacious decision. I remember a horse show at a local riding stable some years ago. One of the leaders toppled and her horse ran over her. Luckily she had worn a helmet because one of her horse's hoof hit her head. Our riding instructor tell to us later that the helmet was totally disintegrated. I can't even think what would have happened if she hadn't wear the helmet...

Ouch, good thing you wore a helmet! I have a scar on my knee from when my pony tried to get really close to a tree when we obviously werent going to both fit and my knee got like torn up. It was on a trail ride, but I insisted on finishing because I didn't want to cut everyone else's ride short. Even though my knee was covered in blood. I'm one tough cookie. Haha.

Helmets IMO are a neccesity. Glad you were wearing one!! I hate to see so many kids fighting wearing a helmet because "they don't look cool." I know they are trying to enforce helmets in 4-H even for western events and people are really getting upset about it.

    thanks

Thanks for all the messages. Yeah I know my horse never. I mean never spooks. But I now think its cause when cocomo galloped through the woods and ran back to the barn, duke is so dominant that he wanted to run back too! But when I get back on he is going to learn the word stop a little better. I want to ride right now but m y doctor said I need to wait like two or three weeks. Or ill damage my arm more! :( great... but I mean I was shocked when duke spooked because one time me and a friend was riding on the road and first one time a firetruck with lights and sirens past going like 60mph and duke didnt do anything sudden but the other horse did then this other time a dumb truck came like three feet from him and he didnt move. Heck I tie him to the fourwheeler to take him down to his pasture when it used to be really far away.and he would just trot beside me!! I don't care that duke spooked or didnt obey me I still love him.. but I have lost a little trust in him! :( but I can't help it... so im going to go slow and this would be a good time to just do some lunging work and jumping training....

    we learned something

Morgan, the other ride was ahead of me walking back to the barn..well I had to take a breath and catch myself. Well, morgan saw duke I didnt even see him any. But anyways there is this like chain length fence. There is like a three feet opening in it. And there is a gate that taylor was trying to shut on her pony. Well she saw duke coming and she jumped off. Before she could move snowy(the pony) duke jumped straight over him and on the other side it was a hill. So duke jumped morgan said four feet up and landed five to six feet down... we found out that my baby can jump. Oh and he is fine. No joint injury or anything.. but I now feel better about training him to jump only about two to three feet.
