Non Horsey Rescues

I found this little guy in my front yard yesterday. I'm not sure where he came from, but I'm assumeing it was my neighbors tree. It looks like a cat probably got him or he might of broken his wing trying to fly out of the nest. He's a Grackel fledgling. The momma was around the whole time, squawking and throwing a fit whenever we would go outside. I felt bad taking him away from her but there wasn't anything she could do and I really needed to get him to a rescue. The bird in the tree is the momma.

So anyway, I was wondering if anyone else had a rescue story that is non-horse related that you felt really good about. I would love to see pictures too, if you have them.

The last picture is me when I was 12 with a sparrow I rescued. I found her in my driveway, her eyes weren't even open yet. She grew up to be kinda scraggily looking, but she followed me around like a puppy. I made the mistake of underestimating her flying ability and one day when I was cleaning her cage in the garage, she flew right out the door and I never found her. I have a soft spot for birds I guess.

Lovely thread! Great job on the bird rescue

I volunteered to be a foster to a dog rescue then fell in love with our first foster. She's a 3 yr chihuahua, who is the nicest, friendliest dog we've ever met. She has extreme allergies (all grass and trees and can only eat duck and potato food). We joke she needs a bubble. Also she had congenital patella issues and had knee surgery in March - still on the mend. Here's some pics.

Last weekend, we rescued a female coyote pup. I know, like we need more coyotes around here.
Anyway, my sister was out riding. She came right up the horse and collapsed in front of it. She was covered in cactus and severly dehydrated. The momma wasn't around and the pup was to small to be on its own. So, she brought her back to our house on the horse.
We gave the pup some honey water and a little boiled chicken. The little gal was so out of it, my sister was able to pull the cactus needles out without to much fuss.
We took her to the local wildlife rescue people. They are going to keep her a few months & then re-release her back into the wild.
It was so cute. On the way to the rescue she started howling in the truck.

So in lies the madness, the pursuit of the impossible in the face of the complete assurance that you will fail, and yet still you chase.

She is adorable, you can really tell she has a sweet personality. So did you decide to keep her?

OH MY GOODNESS! I'm in Arizona also, and while I see plenty of coyotes, I have never seen a baby. Good job rescueing her.

Aw poor birdie. :( I wish I could volunteer at a rescue but there aren't really in my area. :/

A ride a day keeps the worries away!
