I think so too. And as we can see, this one is spreading very effectively. Luckily it seems that the mortality rate isn't so high as it could be (so far).

this flu in mexico is a combination of swine, chicken and human flu

New Zealand also has some people with it. they were visiting Mexico

In the U.S. it is showing up in spots, and so far in Ohio we have
one case where the kid just came back from mexico and in New york
a family was visiting relatives in mexico.

Yeah... Besides that it have spread to UK and Spain. Haven't checked the latest updates yet so can't know if it has spread more or whatever...

My mother and sister are flying to San Diego tomorrow (very near Mexican border) We all insisted she wear a mask while there and on the plane. She poo pooed us but hopefully we got her mind changed and she will wear one. She is 73 and healthy but still in a high risk group.
My husband get a flu shot every year but I think this one is immune to it. :?
I never get sick so I'm not too worried :lol: *knocking on wood and making signs against the evil eye*

Has anyone here been to Mexico? Not to make anyone mad (just fyi), I've been several times and it's a nasty, filthy dirty place. You can't even drink their water without getting really sick. Imagine what their hospitals are like. They don't take procautions and are not sanitary, so there is no surprise to me that this is happening over there. We have the means, healthcare, and medication to fight it here. Several times in the media it was mentioned that an emergency was declared here to simply help lift regulations and obstacles that make getting certain medications available to the public and to doctors to prescribe easier... in case someone does need them here. Of course, you aren't hearing them say that now likely because the media gets ratings by getting a rise out of us.

It is like a normal flu. There have only been 8 confirmed cases of death so far. Everyone needs to take precautions, of course, wash your hands and what not, but don't go into a hypocondriact (spelling?) or whatever they call it. :) Your body can build an immunity.

I *think* that i heard on the news that Mexico had 140 confirmed deaths! EEEEKKK! A school several towns over had a kid with possible swine flu. Scary! The school has the week off and if the kid does have the flu they have to have 3 weeks off. I am also suppose to go to NYC for a field trip but they might cancel it because there are several reported cases and a school has it. Hopefully it will pass. *fingers crossed*

This same exact thing happened in 1976. IMO it's the governments way of getting an invitation to socially control the medical field. In the 1976 Swine Flu panic, there was only ONE reported death in the US due to the swine flu.... 25 people were reported dead because of the VACCINE!

A few years ago it was the bird flu. I keep chickens, I freaked out over it. I stopped selling eggs and covered all my outdoor chicken areas with bird netting. It passed and I never lost a chicken. :? I don't get very excited about new flu viruses anymore.
I found this article about past pandemics Deadliest pandemics of the 20th century - CNN.com The current one pales in comparison.

I've been to mexico and it seems they aren't as hygienic is some of the areas. It's a possibility that the people getting deathly ill from this are the poorer of the people in mexico who live in shacks. IDK

What I've heard, there's around 20 confirmed deaths in Mexico.

There's just one thing which makes me think. Why people die in Mexico but nowhere else?

What I think about all that, there's no reason to panic now. Maybe then if young, healthy people start to die all around you. Ofcourse it's a little worrisome but over here, authorities have given an announcement that as yet you should take it as a normal influenza (except wash your hands a lot, avoid sick people and if you have travelled lately and got symptoms call to the doctor beforehand instead of it visiting there so you won't spread the virus).

I wish your mom and sister good luck, Vidaloco!

I wondered about that as well Tamma. I know they sell antibiotics over the counter with no need to see a doctor. If people take them too often, the immune system doesn't work as well. We have to see a doctor to get them here. Plus there are more people living below the poverty line in Mexico. I'm sure that has something to do with it.
There is a huge gap between the wealthy and the poor there. They have no middle class.

And seems that our cases were groundless - luckily.
