I don't know that we have any harmful spiders or snakes here. All the animals that are harmful here, eat people so....

If I saw a snake I would call the proper authorities to get rid of it regardless of the size or danger. If it's a spider and I KILL IT. I hate spiders, hate them all and I don't care about how good they really are. I hate them and they all deserve to die.

I live in Qld Australia and have a huge phobia of spiders. We find alot of red backs around our shed and have only had 2 snakes in the shed over the past 5 years.
When I drive down the road in summer / spring atleast once a week I see a snake sunning themselves.

Once I was driving my car and a snake popped his head up through the outside vent in front of me. I screamed and swerved (very funny looking back). I jumped out and locked my car up for a week, never seen the snake again.

We are located in a rural / undeveloped area, so you have to expect to encouter critters, including the kangaroos that are literally 50 metres from the house most mornings.

I much prefer the kangaroos though :P

Your storys have made us smile, a great read. We have Large grey Kangaroo's ,Deer, Dingo's,Fox and Goanna in our horse padock beside our house , you will see any of these at any time. were only 15min from the beach but still in a rural setting. While my OH was out slashing the horse paddock he came across a funny site, a Crow was trying to drag an Goanna backwards through the long grass by his tail. only problem is the goanna was about a metre long and the only thing getting dragged along was the Crow. In the end the Goanna was crawling off with his tail over his head to keep the crow from grabbing it. There is always some thing to see.
My OH said he would worry about the bear's, he watched" the great out door's" a John Candy movie.

We haven't any dangerous spiders in Finland and the only poisonous snake is a viper but its poison is quite mild.

I hate spiders because I have a traumatic experience with them :D. When I was a kid I smashed a grown-up spider. I have no idea about spider's mechanism of procreation but I can swear that when the spider crushed dozens of tiny spiders gushed out of it. I can remember how those little spiders scampered all around me.

So killing spider is sometimes little hard to me. Our house situates on the place where are lot of spiders (I killed 8 spiders in our house in the last summer). But I haven't invincible aversion to spiders or snakes.

We see heaps of snakes and spiders but i don't think people really pay much attention to them. Well, I don't anyway! Unless a snake or spider is right in front of me or i'm in danger of being bitten I don't event think about them!

Children are taught from a young age to stay away from spiders and snakes so not many people run into trouble with them although I heard in the news he other day about a guy that was bitten.

Here's the story:
This guy went behind a big tree to pee and he was doing his business when suddenly a snake (a red belly I think?) rears up and bites him on the . . .um . . .well you get the idea don't you?
The guy is ok (went to hospital etc) but really embarrassed! lol

Riding a horse is not a gentle hobby, to be picked up and laid down like a game of solitaire. It is a grand passion. It seizes a person whole and, once it has done so, he will have to accept that his life will be radically changed.
