PayPal Scam????

As some of you may know we are selling our horse trailer and going back to a stock trailer.

I have the trailer advertised on a couple of internet classifieds sites. I have been corresponding with a man via email about him possibly buying. He requested more pictures, I sent him more pictures. He sent me an email late last night explaining that he was fine with the price as he was a marine engineer working offshore. He lives in WA and buying the trailer for his dad as a surprise gift. He said he would pay by PayPal and not to worry about shipping the trailer he would arrange for an agent/mover to deliver the trailer.
I am leary about this....For some one who is an engineer I would think proper puncuation and spelling in an email would be a must. My spelling and grammar is horrible but I barely made it out of high school and through two semesters of JC..LOL

Is there a possibility of this not being legit? Can I get scammed using PayPal?

Thanks!

This is a scam, If you have listed anything on craiglist in the past, it is something you'd be very familiar with. Do not disclose any information and tell them you will only do a face to face transaction. I have received at least 5 of these exact emails with regards to a saddle and my trailer that I have listed.

Cowchick I recently sold a lot of Sky's stuff via internet and used paypal as the transaction method.

I created an invoice that you can customize to have payment received on receipt (as soon as you agree to sell it) or by a certain date.

Personally I've not been scammed nor think that it's possible as long as you use the right methods and have everything down in writing.

But you never know.. best of luck.

Yup, a scam.

No horse person on the planet would want to be 'surprised' with a trailer. I want to pick out my own, thank you.

Yea, they typically do one of these. "Hi, is this item still available?" <- That has been my red flag. You answer yes, and then you get this long email about how they are in the army, or over seas, in anothr state etc but that they are ok with condition and price, yada yada" but that they can't pick it ip. That they will give you money and worry about a 3rd party picknig up the item. All a scam.

Thanks Sky; I have had good luck with PayPal as well, but it seems like people are always coming up with new ways to scam people...grrr

It has been a long time since I put anything on CL for that reason (and the tire kickers who waste my time)

He replied to an ad I had on a ranch magazine classifieds site. Never had an issue before...apparently scammers are expanding their horizons.

Oh no, I usually start out with that sentence when I'm interested in something! Guess I better start with something else!
