so i just want to share some pics of what might be the coolest animal on the planet, or the 8th wonder of the world ~if you will i am talking about the Marbled Crayfish!! why is it so cool?? it clones itself!! :O i have one adult and about 25 babies that hatched on october 4th and there are about 50 more that hatched december 13 and are still hanging onto mommy. they are truly fascinating. i know that they are illegal in Australia and the UK but they are legal her in the US of A!! and for those who are worried *i am never going to release these into the wild!* they will be pets and feeders for my other fishies
i got Momma Cray (the adult) in the summer. she traveled from montana to massachusetts. she was very small
i was skeptical if this cloning thing was true, but them 2 weeks before october 4th she had laid her first batch. i was so happy the eggs are under her tail
a week after october 4th the first brave baby started to explore and crawl around on momma cray. this was the first time i saw a baby crayfish.
soon all the babies started exploring during the day and went back to Momma Cray at night. i of corse was snapping pictures! this is a pic of a 12 day old cray. i see it as an 'inspirational' picture, a small crayfish climbing over "big" rocks and battling the current from the filter.
and another pic that you can almost see them saying "so what brings you to this part of town?"
they soon started growing
before:
after (thats food in there):
Momma Cray finally came out again and molted
the babies kept molting except one. the biggest on says hi to the littlest one.
as of november 17th momma cray laid more eggs whst have hatched but the babies are still on her
(eggs):
