Online ordering from Walmart saves me a drive of considerable distance. When trying to order P pads I get a message saying they are undeliverable. Canada Post has a list of chemicals that can not travel by mail. Since these would come by mail, I'm wondering what chemicals are used to attract a pup to use them.
My best guess is a chemical that gives the scent of dog urine/feces to encourage a pup to go to that spot. I have no idea what chemical it may be or how much toxicity would be involved with it.
Have you tried to newspaper technique? The puppy is confined to an area; the area is covered completely in newspaper; gradually the amount of newspaper is decreased until it's just in one spot and the puppy goes there.
If I ever got a smaller dog, I would really like to try and train it to use a kitty litter box. As an experiment, I'm sure it would be doable and I'm not seeing what the down side to it would be.
We also tried the kitty litter box - they tipped it up, had great fun with it, ate and puked up some of it...........
The newspaper method works really well and for some reason they never chewed that at all
