Rescued Hummingbird!

Last night my husband found a hummingbird that appeared to have been injured. Probably from one of the other hummers that fiercely take over the feeders I have on the front porch.

Well, I brought it inside and placed it in a box, cushioned with shredded paper and a soft towel to lay on. Placed a lid, after cutting slits in the box for air. It has been very cold and wet here the past few days , so placed the box near the vent for warmth.

This morning I checked on it, and it was in a sitting up position (like perched). Encouraging. So I took a medicine dropper and some sugar water and tried to feed it. It took a couple of drops. Then it started to flutter it's wings!

I quickly put the cover back, certainly didn't want a hummer flying throughout the house, and took the box out to the porch. Could hear the wings beating on the lid. Lifted the lid and voila, she/he flew off!

My good deed for the day! If I could work my camera and load pictures, I would have loved to show you how tiny and lovely it was. But I am a sad failure at tech things. Perhaps this is motivation to learn for any future "rescues".

I am completely nutso about hummingbirds. I would absolutely love to have the chance to have one for a few days. They are just about the most unique creature around.
But, then, I'd like a pet bat, too.

They come to feed on bush in front of my house in summer, and it's a real pleasure to watch them through the window. Beautiful creatures!
