Seminar on Potomac Fever

My vets office put on a seminar at a new feed store today. One of the top guys from Fort Dodge was there. A Purina feed guy was there. My vet and his staff and of course the feed store owner and his crew.
We had dinner, wohoo, that was good.
Anyway, the seminar was on potomac fever, and it aint good.
Wanted to share with you.
Vets office was selling shots tonight at a discount, but I don't do shots, so one of the girls said, call me tomorrow, set up your appt, and we will give them at the discount price.
I won a scoop too. It was an overall great seminar. There is another one at the same feed store next month during their grand opening. Ill be all over that too.
Oh and I got home tonight, there was a box at my door, was the neighbors. The box was from a rescue place, he is one of the volunteer firefighters, and it had a rescue rope in it for horses. That's why it ended up on my door step..lol
Anyway, heres the link.

Being from the Potomac Area.... we have been on top of this for twenty years. I remember some outbreaks in the eighties... killed some fine TB's if my memory isn't to foggy yet. Maybe it was the seventies
Get the vaccine folks. You never know when you'll cross paths with a horse that is traveling. Coast to coast sales are common.

Thanks Painted! I printed the article out. I always get the "shot" (well I always get the shot for my horses I should say) but never knew the whole story or info behind it all. It's on my list of topics to "research".

Glad you had such a good time at the seminar.

You welcome. We havent had a need for the shot in this area for awhile I guess. There is so much more to it, the details ya know. I mean that link has a lot, but dosnt cover things like, say your horse gets it, clears of it, you think your done dealing with it, and then the laminitis comes just days after the fever, not during, and then you have to put your horse down cause in those cases its usually so severe you can't save it. It dosnt say that your preg mare may show no signs of the fever, but will abort for no reason and act like nothing happened.
Im all for the shot. It may not keep my horse from getting it, but it will lesson the severity of it if my horse gets it.
