Things that make you smile

As a kick off to the new year, I wanted to start a list of the things that make people happy, those moments that just make a person smile. I'll start...

I was going through some boxes etc in my basement and came across an old, heavy suitcase. When I opened it I discovered some old cloths and tucked in the bottom a pile of love letters my husband and I wrote to each other when we were dating from afar. These letters are over 25 years old. Re-reading them brought a smile to my face that I just can't seem to wipe away.:D

On a horse related note, I had a great ride on Koolio today and managed a flying lead change! :D

What has made you smile today?

Watching my sweet old boy kick his heels up and feel good.

Seeing my husband love on my horses.

A video of our grandchildren enjoying their Christmas presents. (parents are serving our Country and can't get home for the holidays)

A nice backrub at the end of a hard day.

My younger kids voluntarily cleaning up the kitchen and doing a good job.

Hearing my favorite song( beast of burden) on the radio.
Pulling into the parking lot of a track for a day at the races, and seeing them turn for home
Seeing our eagle fly before a game.
Pulling the occasional red wax ring off Maker's
The occasional cigar
Winning double downs and splits
Finding an interesting documentary on tv-weird I know
Finding pork shoulder on sale knowing good bbq is coming
The first signs off fall
Seeing people show kindness to others
Seeing an old man in the same kind of ' overhalls' my Papaw wore
An occasional pinch of Copenhagen

What made me smile today was:
Michigan State beating Baylor
Ohio State beating Alabama and moving on to the College Football Playoff National Championship game.

Today I smiled at cows on the roads that made me slow down (open range). A patient who has met all her goals and can live on her ranch alone like she wants to. Being in my own house and taking a bath in my own tub. One of my kids' dogs that I have apparently inherited. Left over caramel corn that another daughter left for me. Good whiskey and some Irish peat burning.

Lots of things make me smile. I'm lucky that way. It doesn't take much.

Not a single day goes by in my life (and thank God for that) without me having a good laugh. Partly due to my slanted view of what's humorous, and partly due to my husband who shares this slanted view.

What makes me smile are too numerous to try to list, but at the moment I am smiling because my kitty cat, Miss Kitty, is trying to snuggle while I try to type! She is a determined little feline for sure! :)

Today was a work day so a few smiles but nothing to see mention here. Yesterday though....*smiles*......got to use an arena to ride and felt improvements in several things we did. Yay! And to pass along a good chuckle.....I saw what I thought was a small bit of poop in the arena but it looked like only one "horse apple" with a bit of it coming upwards off of the main little pile. Weird, I thought and was wondering how Sonny managed to poop a poop that looked so strange. When we got closer to it (I was riding) as I lost my focus of looking forward because I was staring at the strange upward poop......then realized that one of my gloves had fallen out of my pocket and the glove was laying there with palm up and one finger curled upward. Lol!! Thank goodness my horse wasn't suddenly producing weird poop for me to worry about. I had a good laugh at myself.

My haffie seems to be under the impression she is expected to know everything so she acts like she does, then when I try to teach her something new she often has a momentary fit because she doesn't know "it" already. And, once we get over that, and she learns it, she acts like it's "old hat, kids stuff, boring, could do it with 2 fronts tied, pshh". That makes me smile - every time.

I'm easy to please. I wake up every morning with an adorable puppy staring into my face, like I'm Christmas morning EVERY morning. Then there's good coffee, good songs, great horses, great friends, and books, and food (We have this amazing burger place that knows my order by heart, plus ice cream and chocolate always make me happy) and... I spend about every day with a perpetual grin. I love to appreciate the little things.

An out of the blue text from my children & grand daughters simply saying "I love you".
Seeing someone do an act of kindness for a stranger.
Gliding across the field on Sangria, my Paso Fino.
That moment when things just unexplainably come together and you know it was a "God thing"
Spring showers, when everything smells new & fresh.
and right at this moment, Neekos (my Aussie) sweet face pleading to go play outside in 9 degree temps. :)

We were chopping up a load of wood for the fire at my sisters. Nephew was chain sawing into lug size, I was splitting them and sister was stacking them. It was hard boring work especially as it was drizzling.
I was bent over throwing the cut logs to where I was splitting them when my nephew stuck a coin down my butt which was exposed a bit, said , "I've paid, now sing me a song!"

It is that sort of silly thing that has us in fits.

After having a very difficult two years...having our farm still and staying afloat...my gelding coming up to stand by me to soak up the sun with me and play with a tab on my jacket..the nudge/bump from my draft mare's head as she comes up behind me....my 2 granddaughters...my husband....
