Two weird fish I caught

I caught these two fish in Padre Island. I have no idea what they are called. The first is really ugly. The second one is kind of neat looking.

Being a land locked midwesterner, I'm no help on identifying them That first one is ugly for sure. I caught a gar in a local river earlier this summer, that's about as ugly as it gets here.

Interested to hear what they are though. Hope someone can help you out.

the ugly one looks like a "bullfish" as we used to call them. They have spines and you'd best be careful. Not really worth the eating as they are just bags of bones.

Where is Padre Island?

I am guessing the one in Texas, Tiny.

Poor fish. Have you no mercy?

There is just as much horse sense as ever, but the horses have most of it.

The bigger one looks like one of the many species of toadfish

And the other looks like one of the many species of gobies. There are a hundred or more species, all over the world with a huge variation between them. They may have local names, too

Could the first one be a very large tadpole? Lol. That's seriously what it looks like. A very large, mutant, tadpole.

Can't see the pictures right now, but were they in brackish (partly salty) water? If so it could very well be the fish Allison posted.
