    Vacation Brag thread (Smokeys)

Just spent a week in the Smokeys. I loved it there. It was very pretty. A little bit touristy but we embraced it. Really had a blast but, no matter how pretty it was there, I Love my Shenendoahs more but I think that's because I fell in love with them first...

Wanted to share some pictures. Third attempt. Not sure why they aren't attaching...

Thanks for sharing Jenny! Glad you had fun. We love it there but generally avoid the touristy parts. We did do the titanic museum last time we went (that was Morgan's pick) and it was pretty cool - her passenger card was a girl that was a nanny that had a toothache and her tooth that was pulled was in a display case. Morgan lost a tooth the night before we went. Did you survive or sink with the ship?

Gunslinger, we saw the elk when we went last Oct. We went pretty early in the morning and got there just as the sun was coming up. The last few times we've went we didn't get there at good times and didn't see them. There's a crazy amount of turkeys in Cataloochee too, my hubby was salivating and wishing he could hunt lol!

Gunslinger... You are waisting your time. There aint no animals in the Smokeys. That was my biggest complaint! I saw NOTHING! Hmph. Mad now. I did see a dead ground hog. Oh... and I think there was a squirrel in dollywood. I complained the entire time. I was like, where are the freaking animals!

The problem was we had the dog and couldn't do any of the back country trails so we could only do the heavily trapsed over ones. The boys were so busy doing the tourist crap they didn't care about no stinking bears. I put them on a guilt trip though and so next month we are taking the horse trailer to the Shenendoahs so I can see the leaves changing and the bear. (I'm not sure when the leaves will change this year. It's been dry so I'm thinking early).

MHF - I was a very wealthy aristocrat who had just gotten married. I did survive. Max was a crewman but I didn't find his name or info anywhere. I forget who husband was...

They do that at the Holocaust museum as well. I think it's neat because it really gets the kids involved and they "trick" them into learning and taking something away from it.

More fun pix. The last one is from my ghost tour... Had to show off my orbs!

Bummer on the animals. Perhaps you should have left the dog with the boys? We saw lots of animals when we went, usually do but we try and avoid the congested areas aside from the mandatory drive around Cades Cove.

Glad to hear you survived the ship sinking Morgan & I both made it (I was a crew member) but Dan who was a TX oil baron turned cattle rancher, did not.

I spent a week camping in the smokeys about 3 years ago, had a good time and saw lots of animals. I swore I'd go back, but then I discovered Maine.

It was gorgeous! Im planning on going back this fall again. Hiking is incredible, rafting is a blast. There are a lot of campgrounds/sites throughout the state, but I like camping around the town of Forks. They have a beautiful lodge, the Northern Outdoors (google that name).
