A few weeks later quit accelerating AGAIN this time in an intersection but started after. After that I didn't drive it for 2 weeks and then only to work. It did it once more, & that was it no more driving. My mom wanted to STUPIDLY drive it to San Diego(about 45 minutes away and down an insane freeway, I hadn't taken it on the freeway since the first non acceleration incident because it's plain unsafe) & that morning it wouldn't start for her to take it. I told her it was the car saving her life and she better listen. It started right up a few hours later when we were waiting on a tow truck to take it to a nearby shop, haha. So they replaced the fuel pump, ignition module and multiple other things, put hundreds of dollars into it and it STILL wouldn't start. We decided to cut our loses and not fix it when it was going to be another 800 on top of that for a new cat, atleast 300 for new tires, not to mention the radiator and the oil leak. It also needed a new hood. Before this I had put hundreds of dollars into maintenance for the dumb thing. Enough was enough & I needed something reliable
But I loved that car! It was zippy and cute and incredibly fun to drive. Im still in grieving.

    You need a new mechanic.

I think your desires are reasonable but the old phrase "beggars can't be choosers" comes to mind. When I was 17 "I" bought a vehicle that my parents required me to buy. I had very little say in what was purchased, although I had to make the payments(including insurance). It made me mad at the time but I wasn't harmed by the decision. I was also looking for a truck and ended up getting a full sized SUV that got horrible gas mileage. But at least it was 4 wheel drive. Remember, "this too shall pass"..........

My car actually went to two mechanics recently and has been to countless others over its little Honda life & regardless of how good the mechanic is I wasn't going to dump another 1500 into sonething that was constantly blowing up on me. Regardless, carcar is dead and gone and nothing can be done either way. I do wish we had fixed it now, so this is a touchy subject :)

I do agree about beggars can't be choosers, but at the end of the day it's my money I'm going to be spending (payments and gas) and I'm only getting more unhappy with it & I got in a tremendous fight with my mom about it last night(which is very unusual for us) because I still cannot get over WHY in the world they would pick something for me with that many miles and that kind of gas mileage. They're like "oh it has four wheel drive!" I live in CALIFORNIA. If it ever snowed here it'd be a freak accident/miracle. If I ever have to drive in the snow it'll be way off kilter. & I do not go to the dessert, I don't think it's fun. You won't catch me off roading. I'm honestly starting to think he got it because HE goes to the desert & has a dune buggy and all that. Uh, no. Not me. Im going to drive it today but I pretty much have my mind made up that I'm selling it and getting something appropriate for me. This is not it. They keep telling me that "this that and the other thing can happen to a car with less miles" uh YEAH but there's a lot more chance of something happening with this one having that many more.

Mileage is just that. I'd rather have a well maintained car with high miles than a beat car with low miles. It's all relative. I'd rather have 4 wheel drive and not need it than not have it and need it. Besides how do you know you'll be in California forever? For the record, I had a 1989 nissan hard body (truck) with the same amount of miles that I used just for hunting. I was VERY hard on that truck and it never needed more than an oil change, ever. It did get about 18 on the highway, though.........

Well, I can now drive stick. I HATE IT. But I can do it, & well at that. This stupid POS gets more like 10mpg. I kid you not. I have put $50 in it in the last TWO days and have barely driven it. WTFlip Flop. Also, a '93 Pathfinder blue books for 1100. This is an '87 and Scott paid 1700 & didn't even try and talk the guy down OR even ask what mpg this thing got! Are you KIDDING ME. I have zero car shopping experience and I could've made a better buy for myself. Livid doesn't even begin to cover how I feel. Just driving this to and from work I could probably put $200 into it in gas a month. Just. To. Work. And I work close! I AM FURIOUS. He needs to buy this stupid thing back it's HIS bad buy I shouldn't be paying for it (literally or figuratively). I'll try and put some pictures of this "beast" up. Oh did I mention I just stumbled upon a '94 for 1200? Yeah.

I just would like to mention millage isn't that bad, My S10 has over 250k miles and still ran like new until I wrecked, in two years before I wrecked it when It had 240k miles or more on it, I only put $200 in parts and that included a tune-up when I first got it. It will pass with time and the vehicle might grow on you, but in the end it's your choice.

Update on Sally the Brick as I dubbed her...she sucks. My mom was gone for 2 weeks and so I drove her car the whole time since it gets better gas mileage, so I've driven the brick maybe 20 times tops. & only short distances.. In that time all the locks broke so if I want to lock it I have to break into the hatch in the back since its a different key and ninja roll over the back seat. That's attractive. The rear view mirror fell off, had to sit in a CVS parking lot for 10 minutes while the super glue set on that one. & yesterday the front tires blew and absolutely shredded. Thank god I wasn't going fast or that would have been BAD. Apparently since the tread was good on the fronts we only bought back tires & the fronts were from 1990! No wonder they shredded. Looked like someone slashed my tires. Those tires were older than me. So we are $550 in and it still needs to be rekeyed and a new ignition. I trust it as far as I can throw it and it makes me nervous to drive it because it's like what's next?!
