Angry What is with dog owners these days???

Okay, so I'm not complaining about ALL dog owners but there seems to be a lot of threads on here about irresponsible dog owners...and now there is one more.

I just got home from the stable and I had my 5 month old in the car. I get out and notice the neighbor (who ties her poor little yorkie in her front yard for hours and lets it bark the whole time) now has a black chow. So I think "oh great, another poor dog." I turn around and get into the back seat and unlatch my son's car seat when I suddenly have a very familiar burning pain in my leg and I hear someone growling, barking and a person yelling....the chow had just bit me and was coming back for more! I grabbed the first thing I could which happened to be a dressage bat (am I the only one that has their horse crap taking over their car?) and just started hitting it as it was trying to come at me and then at my car. I slammed the door shut to keep it away from the baby and the dog yelps in pain as the door hits it's nose. Growls at me a few more times, so I wave the crop around a little more and it runs back home. His owner then proceeds to yell at me for hurting her dog!! So I yelled back to keep him leashed and quickly get my son into the house.

10 minutes later the cops and animal control are at my door because the lady accused me of beating her dog with a horse whip and wanted to press charges for cruelty to animals!!! I was livid. I literally dropped my pants and showed them the bite marks on my thigh and told them what happened BEFORE I beat the dog off of me. Then I demanded she be cited for the leash law and said I wanted proof the darn thing had it's rabies vaccinations and that she's lucky I don't SUE her.

So long story short animal control now has custody of her the chow because she did not have proof that it is up to date on it's rabies vaccine and she has been fined up the "you know where."

    I don't get these people?????

Get the rabies shots, just in case. Not pleasant, but it may save you from a lot of trouble in the future. And no I don't get those people either, but they make me laugh and irritate all at the same time. Good job on handling the situation though, you didn't do anything irrational. *Hugs*

We need more people in this world like you.

I am sorry you got bit, but I commend you for responding to it the way you did! That lady sounds like an idiot. Seriously though, what is with all the crazy dog stories lately?

Ooo, if that were me that dog would've been lucky to be LIVING after that. What kind of a dog will bite you?! I cannot stand that! I hate when dogs bite other animals, but PEOPLE? No. That is just inexcusable.

Chows aren't known for being nice. They're also not known for being smart.

Tell me about it! I hit a puppy that was running lose in the street and the owner had the nerve to call me irresponsible and made me feel like dirt because she had to put him down. I said is there anything I can do to help? And she told me "well you can start by paying my $800 vet bill". 0_0 Screw that you lying son of a biotch. While we were looking at the dog she said "MY DOGS NEVER GO IN THE ROAD" and while she's saying this her THREE other dogs were IN THE ROAD.

0.0 Wow. If that little piece of meat took a bite of my leg I can't say that I wouldn't head into the house, grab a gun from the gun closet, and shoot it. Especially if I had a young child in its path too.

But, I am glad you're ok and hope all goes well.

She got the breeder to verify on the phone to me that he had his rabies vaccination a few months ago, and she herself is sending me the documentation. My friend who has the Pom rescue actually knows this breeder so I don't feel like I am getting a run around. The breeder was really upset that it happened and is already making arrangements to regain ownership and have the dog put down. Apparently the family lied a bit about their home and where they lived when they adopted this dog because the breeder had been under the impression he was going to farm type home not downtown where his home didn't even have a fence and he would have the opportunity to run public streets....I don't know what was going on there but I get the feeling these people were told that this dog had some sort of issue.... and they lied in order to get him. The breeder also told me that she had already thought the dog might be better off put down but wanted to give it a chance with a family who said they would be able to handle it's issue. I feel for her, her heart was in the right place as she apparently tried to find a good home for it's temperament....my neighbors are just bad people who don't think anything of being dishonest in order to get what they want.

I guess they all lucked out that no children were harmed and that I only have a bad bruise with no real punctures to it. It could have ended up a heck of a lot worse for my neighbor and the breeder.

I read a story in the newspaper lately about a woman in the US who let her yellow lab out and the dog wandered into the street. A woman hit the dog, killed it, and busted up her bumper.
Allstate sent the dog owner the bill for the car.

Sorry it happened Cinny, fight it as good as you can!
