Well my family is 95% polish and the polish tradition is that Christmas eve is the BIG dooda. It's the most important part (more than Christmas day itself). We have the big "meatless" dinner with our homemade pierogies and fish and etc etc etc. We go to mass at night and come back for desert and we stay up late into the night. Then Christmas day comes and we do another dinner, but smaller (as my sisters and their hubbies are off to the in-laws) but it's not nearly as special or big.

So what do you celebrate more? Christmas or Christmas Eve? And do you have any traditions? (we always make pierogies and decorate gingerbread cookies?)... 2 weeks before of course.

We tend to have more celebration on Christmas eve, too. Just a big party with food and a few gifts. Then we open the immediate family gifts, and "santa" gifts in the morning. Have a dinner again on Christmas day.

My mom's side and dad's side don't get along very well so we do Christmas Eve with my mom's side and Christmas with my dad's side. Christmas is always the bigger deal though because my sister brother and I get our presents from our parents.

In Finland, Christmas Eve is normally and to most of people bigger 'celebrating' deal. We open our gifts then, have our Christmas meal then etc.

Sure Christmas day has its holiness too but it's more like for stopping and calming down for those who wants to do it.
