I don't like PETA, however, I don't like the idea of keeping dolphins and orcas in captivity. I don't even think we have solid evidence that we (humans) have superior intelligence. Not saying that we should throw our captive animals out to fend for themselves... But I feel like we are violating an intelegent and sensitive creatures rights by capturing and breeding them. Just my opinion of course.

Oh, no, I never TRY to be sarcastic! I'm always trying to be nice (and behaving well). I just had lots of fun reading through the article. I thought if whales will be granted constitutional rights, why not cats and dogs? I'd think they deserved them more by living with us for so long. But if we are giving them rights, we have to treat them like humans, correct?

From what I read at least some of them were rescues that wouldn't be able to survive in the outside world (which is not nice at all when it comes to food and natural enemies). Personally I have no problem with it as long as animal is healthy and happy.

Well, let me tell you a story about these PETA idiots!!
Several years ago a recently divorced friend of mine and her to children rented a place in the country, that used to be a mink farm, had'nt had mink on it for years. They had a couple horses and about 6 rabbits. Now these were the kids 4-H rabbits, cute little holland lops, that they had raised themselves. These were pet rabbits not meat rabbits. Anyway they housed the animals in the end of one of mink barns. This friend and her kids were huge animal lovers. The animals were treated amazingly wonderful.
One day they came home from school and work the kids went out to feed the animals they found all the cages open 2 rabbits scared shaking in the corner of
The barn. And never could find the rest. Since they lived next to the woods chances are coyotes got them.
So the point of the story. A few days later a little story in the local paper came out that a group was taking credit for liberating rabbits that were caged and being housed on a mink farm , that were going to be killed and used for fur.
These people by letting the rabbits loose killed and basiclly turtured them. They know nothing about animals or how to care for them. Anyone with any sence could see these were well cared for pets.
    My friends kids were devastated!!

PETA just wants to jip money off people.

PETA falls into the category with Westboro babtist church, (Yes I'm aware Westboro has nothing to do with animals) but what I'm getting at is they try to attack people's emotions just to make money. But I mean you'd have to be a complete birdbrain to believe PETA on anything anymore. They will never be considered anything more than a Terrorist group by me.

They definitely get some sort of enjoyment out of showing off mangled and brutal pictures of animals. I know that there are people out there that really mistreat animals (and should be shot) and that Proctor and Gamble test their products on poor animals- I get it, its terrible- but I don't ever need or want to see pictures of it. I see how you can compare PETA to some churches. They're more like a business that milks money from people then they are a "public service." I am a member of PETA- and it drives me insane how they are CONSTANTLY asking for donations. Making you feel like if you don't give them money poor abused animals will die.

It is a sickening how many extremist groups there are running rough shod over peoples' emotions these days. I agree totally with referring both PETA and Westboro Baptist as terrorist groups. I acknowledge that there are members of any group who are not as extreme as the headline makers.

I can agree with the baseline theory of what PETA may have started out trying to accomplish, people do need to be mindful of how they treat the animals that are in their care. However, trying to shock everyone into being vegans who turn their pets free (since having them living with us as beloved family members who are well cared for is obviously abuse), by parading horrid pictures of the most extreme cases as though that is the norm is not going to accomplish anything.

I wouldn't doubt that those whales are as (or more) intelligent as those PETA people, wouldn't doubt it for a second.

PETA also broke into my Psychology professor's lab when he worked in Missouri and let the chimps they were studying behavior on loose outside. If I remember, he said they were found dead by a river. Way to be, PETA.

I said in my first post that they very rarely have any idea what they're actually talking about. This is just one more thing. They had a **** cow over Eight Belles's death, saying she could have been saved. Mind, that was right after Barbaro was finally put down for his back leg, not BOTH fronts. The thing that finally shut them up was a reporter for MSN (not even a horse person, just a sports writer) basically calling them stupid for not knowing anything about a horse with a broken leg, let alone two.

They know they won't win. They just want the attention and publicity. And like the article says, if they can garner any sympathy at all, and get a lot of press, this could pave the way for future advancements to fall in their favor. Or it goes along the lines of that old joke that if a kid asks for a pony enough times, her parents will be relieved when she switches to asking for a kitten and will gladly grant her wish (when, of course, all she wanted was a cat to begin with).

PETA people are extremists, and they're about the shock value, but the people in charge (and not the mindless masses of followers) really aren't stupid.
