I play the piano (have since I was 8 and I'm now 30). I played bass trombone and tenor trombone in high school and college (got my full tuition scholarship playing bass trombone). Played trumpet from fifth grade through the beginning of my sophomore year of high school. I can also play tuba, baritone horn, alto sax, a little clarinet and flute.

I've been playing tenor trombone for 6 years now and my sister can play B flat clarinet, bass clarinet, tenor ax and baritone sax. I've always wanted to play the bassoon though.

Jumanji I had it out with my band/orchestra director because I wanted him to teach me how to play a wind instrument in our down periods and I wanted to learn either trombone or oboe (whichever he had in a back closet I could borrow) and bassoon was an option. The funny mini argument we had was when I told him that I wanted to play bassoon because to me it sounded like a duck or mad goose! I'd love to learn it though!

I really wanted to learn it because the notes are the same as a trombones.

That's also a good reason! I learned what little I did of piano because I knew both the clefs and went 'meh, why not?' Oh reasons they're almost always simple haha

I play the trumpet, and my favorite piece we have played is last year we played September by Earth, Wind, and Fire and 25 or 6 to 4 by Chicago, in marching band. The show was super cool, and lets face it, I was awesome at it. We also played Make Me Smile, and Im a Man. My favorites were September and 25 or 6 to 4 though. Im glad that my last season was a good one, I quit this year, so I could work more, to finance my own horse. I still play in regular band though.

I play the oboe and my sister plays bassoon. When we were in college, we were hired to do some music in the schools programs. We played for a large group of kids that were from 1st to 3rd grade. We also talked about the instruments. There were several other musician. We had a woodwind quintet. The floor was opened for questions and comments. One little boy's comment was "My favorite was the hobo and the buffoon."

I only play guitar...and only rhythm. I only started playing about 2 years ago. I've dabbled in piano, but that's difficult for me as I can't play by ear and I can't read music. I just have to practice a piece enough to remember where my fingers are supposed to go.

I am proud to say, though, that some of the "professional" guitar players I know can't play some of the songs that I can. Songs that are off meter or have funky chords (diminished or augmented) are what I learned on LOL. My learning has been rather.....um......unorthodox.

It's all good! In my book unorthodox learning is sometimes the best way to go! When I started on guitar I couldn't read treble clef (have to think about it now if I get busy lol) so I just converted it to bass clef and then put the notes on the treble cleff instrument. Drove my band director nuts whenever he'd see me playing and ask me what notes it was
My grandpa recently started like how you did (he has no inclination to read music now or ever haha) and I hate to say it but he could out play me in cords for a bass player I aint got no rythm! Haha
