funny things in Modeling

I'm on a modeling site open to all genres and looks. It's a networking for models. It's quietly known as "the myspace for modeling". Modelmayhem. I've been on there for about 4 years and worked with great and not so great people, had lots of fun, and love it. Anyways I'm on there right now just stumbling around looking at the new models and photographers in my area and reading the threads new and old and it seems to me that every other handful of new photographer that joins, at least one of them has to claim in a thread that they are the worlds best and nobody can top their work. Coming from my own personal view and opinion of their portfolio, most that claim this are very off with at best a mediocre starting portfolio, but again it's a personal opinion.

One photographer at the moment though has by far topped every other thread claiming he is the one and only best in the world. Not only has he claimed this by thread jacking about 3 other threads not even closely related but he has a list of MM models he's worked with and is now claiming nobody on MM can every be a model (not sure his reasoning), and has put a challenge to everyone on there to find an MM model publish in a magazine THIS month and every month prior WITH an editorial tearsheet. According to him you are NOT a model at all if you do not fit this discription, oh and it has to be in LONDON because those are the only real models.

He's been laughed at for most of this thread and I had to quote this little back and forth! It's so great and kind of sad at the same time! He's so dense and self absorbed he's digging himself in and I personally find it a little funny.

MM model: "And on a related note...what tears do you have this month? Are you still a photographer? Or does your logic only go one way, because that's what I'm guessing. That's my question. By using your logic you are not a real photographer unless you have tears. Where are yours?"

His answer: That doesn't matter, just answer the question

Another person replied: So you can throw around as many insults as you want, but the instant someone asks you something about your accomplishment you won't talk. Yeah, that makes sense. You seem the type.

And the thread reached 10 pages before it was locked where he provided no tear sheets, no agency listings, no work history with any agency or high end models AND on the thread he has had 5 people cancel with him because "Well now that I know how you feel about MM models I don't think I'll waste my time just to be shot down, I'm better than that." Noted by a few.

I thought it was funny. How come these people dig themselves a hold, jump in and expect everyone they've insulted to just help them right back out as in buy work from him? I don't get it but it makes me laugh.

I'm glad I haven't come across working with anyone like that.

I stayed out of it on there and just read it but I thought I'd share it with my horse forum family.

Lol that's kinda funny. I want to get into modeling so I can buy myself a horse trailer eventually. I'm trying to go to a studio to hav my portfolio taken and put together but my mom wants me to wear this prom dress in one of the pix and it still needs a pattern sewn back on. So I'm stuck waiting until the seamstress can find time to put a few stitches in my dress. Lol.

It's fun. I've been doing it as a hobby since I was 17 and started charging a rate when I was 19 and had a couple years to show. It's not the best to get money but if I need a new bridle it'll pay for it. I've been pretty picky with who I work with but I won't turn down a job with a decent photographer with good references either.

Any ideas on agencies I should go to? I submitted to Docherty agency but they denied me because I didn't have professional photographs. I'm going to submit to Ford Modeling once I get photos taken

No idea, I don't work through agencies because it requires you to basically work through them and only through them with whoever whenever. I like being able to collaborate with photographers and come up with ideas for a shoot together instead of being told what I'm going to do and I don't have a say in it.
Plus agencies are extremely picky for their models and I don't want to worry about being perfect in someone elses eyes, I'm perfect in mine and that's all that matters.

Good luck in whatever you choose to do though. I will say though stay away from Suicide girls, Gods Girls and Candy Cane girls. They claim to be "industrial alternative" but it's a mock for adult themes and sexual solicitation or so I've read.
