I've been on a guided spring bear hunt in the Swan mountains of Montana, it was absolutely amazing and so physically challenging; it's one area I need to learn more about as I too plan on doing it with my own soon.

Yes, five days of riding 10+ miles then walking 10+ miles each day we finally found a small color phase. It's illegal to use bait or dogs to hunt bear out here, so its all about tracking, waiting, and being in the right place at the right time.

I live in Montana, and my family has always used horses to gather our cattle in the fall on our Forest Service permit so we often try to hunt along the way. My husband and I used our horses to get his elk out this fall, and we plan to use them more for hunting now that we have a trailer.

^^^^ That's sounds like an adventure of a life time.....rounding cattle and hunting at the same time.

Haha, it probably sounds a lot more adventurous than it is. Finding and gathering the cattle is obviously the priority as they need to come home before winter hits too hard. The hunting usually only happens when opportunity strikes and we have spare time--but yes, it can be a lot of fun. =)
