I quail hunt from horse back, as well as field trialing birtd dogs from horse back. I have gone to North Dakota twice, for "summer camp" and we would put 20+ miles a day on horses running dogs on prarie chickens.

We also used to keep track of our coyote hounds from horse back while the other hunters ran the roads in pick ups.

I haven't hunted on horseback, but have hunted most of my life and I fully plan on using my future endurance horse as a hunter too! I live in Florida and common game is small like squirrels and rabbits but hogs are in full supply and deer are out there too. I can only imagine hunting big game out west, bears scare me I won't lie!!

I hunt hogs from horseback, with dogs. I no longer own my own pack, but still hunt with friends. I have also packed in on horses and bowhunted for deer, in our very ample National Forest areas here in SE Texas.

You should have come to my old army base.
As it started closing down we had a lot of deer and boar on camp. And rabbits. So many rabbits!

I was once out with my TBx mare. A sow and her young crossed our path. I didn't stop the mare when she spun and high-tailed it out of there!! Scary creatures to cross paths with on your own.

I have been charged by pigs more than once. I have matching scars on my calves from where a boar got away from the catch dog and slashed me with his tusks.( or tushes as we call them in the south) cut through rubber boots, jeans, socks, and my own hide. 19 stitches in the left 11 in the right.

I have two setters. One was previously trained to hunt before he came to us, but both are rescue dogs with a natural instinct. If they smelt pig, they'd drag me the other way.

Being chased was a very scary experience, but gun/hunting laws out here are very, very strict. We're about to head in to our 'Schutzenfest' period where they take long breaks over April/May and hunt.. and drink. Not a great mix at times!

I was actually very lucky and was invited on a roebuck, pig, and hare hunt while I was in Germany visiting family. I was unsuccessful myseld. But I was tickled to see thst the hares were as big as the deer! You are right they drink a lot.But like my cousin Andreas said all German boys are baptised in hefeweissen! So we did not have any issues. All in all it was an incredible experience that I hope to repeat. The traditions and rituals to hunting there are amazing to me.

I go turkey hunting and I'm going to go deer hunting this fall, but it would be fun to go hunting with horses.

We got to pack out on a black bear hunt while I worked on the dude ranch. Didn't see one bear but too bad we didn't have an elk tag!
