I was surprised to see them with horns personally. I thought they would of shed them by now. Two of the other bulls had shed theirs.

They crossed in front of my truck so the closest point was probably fifty yards or so.
Yeah not far at all, not by Montana standards anyways :)

All our elk have migrated back into the mountains here but the deer are still out and about. We have one heard that hangs out in the hay field in front of the Center for Natural Horsemanship(the school's boarding facility) and there are two big bucks with nice racks still. I never remember to bring my camera out through, shame on me.

We had some bucks the other day out on the ranch that still had their horns maybe they aren't feeling the change in the weather enough to loose them since it was so mild all year. We had 80 degree weather most of the winter here! I'm not quite sure how that big buck in the back of the picture with four didn't get taken last season, he is nice!

To be honest I'm somewhat surprised to see so many people from Montana on here.

Clover I am jealous I wanted to go to UM-Western for so long! How is it there?

Where is it that there is no hunting? Park or Private property? Just curious.

I love UMW. The classes are easy but chock full of useful information, the teachers are all wonderful and very down to earth and playing with horses every day is the best thing I could ever ask for.

The smart elk hang out on private and protected land. We've got a big herd of bulls (nice big ones) that move onto the preserve towards the middle of August. They know the hunts are coming. Every year they haul poachers to jail trying to sneak a shot out a truck window in the dark. Not a good idea if you ever want to hunt again.

Really great pictures! You got some amazing shots.

Pffttt. I wish there were more Elk down in Southeastern Montana... My uncle saw a few behind his house a couple times but nothing special. We're better known for Mule Deer I guess since the 2nd largest typical point in Montana but that's about it.
